• Settle Down- The 1975

*Matty's POV*

"Do you mind?" I motion to my joint as I sit down next to her with my back against the railing. Her hair has fallen from behind her ear and it covers up half her face. She doesn't seem to mind, but I do. She's very pretty, beautiful even.

"Nah, go ahead," she shakes her head as she glances away from me. I pull out my lighter and light the end of the blunt. I take a long drag, and breathe in the familiarity of it.

"You want some?" I offer to her. She looks up at me again and shakes her head no. "So then why are you here in the first place? Enjoying the view?" I say jokingly.

She gives a short laugh, "No. I live here with my brother Jace and..." she cuts off, something bothering her, "Yeah, and my brother has his friends over here all the time and let's just say they're not really my kind of crowd."

"I see," I understood where she was coming from. I didn't know Jace personally, but the group inside was pretty annoying. "So, you don't smoke?"

She pulls her legs out from the railing and turns to face me, her legs crossed. To my delight, she brushes her hair from her face with her hand. It's hard for me to not stare at her. My eyes have just found a tiny scar above her eyebrow, when she speaks.

"I have before, it's just not my thing. I'd rather spend my time doing other things." Her eyes are wary as she looks for my reaction.

"Like sitting alone on fire escapes?" I joke with a smirk. Her eyes light up, and the corners of her mouth pull up in a grin.

"No," she draws out, a little attitude in her voice. "Like listening to music, playing music, making music," she lists off with a renewed energy to her.

"So, you like music I'm guessing?" My question is sarcastic but she answers it anyway.

"I love music," she says it like it's a fact. She's glowing now, obviously interested in talking about her passion. If I wasn't already attracted to this girl I sure was now. I shared her passion in music. It was probably the only thing keeping me alive right now.

"Wait. What's the difference between playing and making music? When you play aren't you also making music?" I was curious about what she had said before.

"You can play music that's been made by someone else, that you learn, but it's not really yours, you know? Making something yourself, something new, that's making music," she explains passionately. She looks at me, and I swear she can see the adoration on my face. She is more open to me now, showing me her real self.

I continue to stare at her amazed. She puts her hand out all official like but there's a glint in her eyes. "I'm Julia," she tells me. I liked it, it suited her well.

"Matty." I grab her hand and shake it to please her. I smile at her quirkyness. Her returning smile stuns me.

Suddenly, a loud crash from inside grabs our attention. Angry shouts are followed as the people inside try to leave quickly.

"Shit." Julia says under her breath.

What the hell is going on?
