Chapter Eight

*Avery's P.O.V.*

It's funny how everything in our world happens for a reason. Our Goddess places different events throughout our lives that will pave the path to our future. Sometimes these instances aren't very apparent to me.

As Faith and I walked I thought about her past. Her story about being brought up not knowing what a true mate is, is shocking. The Goddess's choices are always set for a reason. Yet the hardest part is knowing the pain that you will encounter sometimes.

Faith and I began approaching a large gray house. The house was two levels. It had a large picture window on the first story, a blue front door, and there appeared to be large back yard. The front of the house had a few small shrubs against the ledges. All in all the house was bleak, but in good condition. I couldn't expect Mason to have daffodils coming out of a small garden in front. The one feature I had neglected was the garage. It was a three car garage. It already held Mason's Audi, a red convertible, and finally my little blue car. I smiled and looked at Faith.

All of a sudden Mason came running outside. He bounded across the lawn and pulled me into his chest quickly. "I was beginning to worry something had happened to you," he confessed. He buried his head in my neck and inhaled my scent. This gesture was clearly meant to soothe his anxious wolf.

"I'm alright, Mason. Faith and I went for a walk and talk after our run," I giggled at his possessiveness.

He let out a shaky breath and then replied, "Good."

I looked back at Faith, "I'll see you later?"

She nodded and brushed her blonde hair away from her face. "Tomorrow. We need to go over some of your duties as Luna and the ceremonies for entering this pack."

I shot her a smile and she walked away. I turned my attention towards Mason and my earlier grievances returned. Everything regarding Noelle and our argument seemed to hit me with waves of various emotions. Soon I found myself shutting down. I didn't feel my previous happiness from being with Mason. I felt.... I'm not sure. I felt like a shell. I felt completely bare and hallow.

"Avery?" Mason's voice pulled me out of my head. "Are you alright?"

Concern was evident on his face. Perhaps it was due to my face contorting to some expression of sadness of heart ache. One thing I knew for sure though. It was going to take time to get over Mason's past. Was I being selfish for feeling so cross with him? Was I being to judgmental? Should I just ignore it all because in the end of it all I was the one he was made for? But sometimes that doesn't matter. Sometimes they will reject you.

Enough! My wolf shouted at me. He loves us! I feel it. I feel his wolf and the depth of his care towards us is vast. You are over-thinking this.

Please just hush! I scolded her. Just because his wolf cares doesn't mean he does.

She growled at me. Why else would he bring you back with him to be the Luna you were meant to be. We were meant to be leaders, Avery. I was destined to be the Luna of this pack. You are my human, my conduit into the real world. Please don't ruin this for me.

I sighed heavily and looked at Mason. "I think its time we discussed some things."

He nodded. "Before or after a tour of our house?" A small spread across his lips and a warmth surged through my heart at "our" house.

"After. I don't want to be lost in there if we fight," I told him.

Mason chuckled. "It will be okay. Follow me, though. I wanna show you our home."
