Chapter Two

His name was Quinn Fredricks, he was 16, and he had only one friend basically his entire life. The sad part is that his best friend cannot be seen by anyone else. However, sometimes Quinn felt this was a good thing, he never has to share. But usually it just made him seem strange to those around him.

Quinn's friend wasn't imaginary, like most young children he was simply a Ghost.

They meet when Quinn was 10 years old. He had been visiting his mother, a teacher at the time. He turned towards his mom's room in the high school. It was dark now that all the kids were at home. The halls looked kind of scarey. Corridors looked longer and forbidding, classrooms were pitch black, seemingly hiding secrets.

Quinn was nervous trying to pretend like a big boy. He was trying so hard to act grown up that he nearly peed his pants when an older boy popped out of the wall. Thankfully he wasn't a baby because peeing his pants would have made his mother angry.

Quinn never wanted to make his mom angry.

As Quinn righted his clothing, he couldn't help but yell at the guy. Which was odd of him seen as he usually can't speak a word when asked. He was very shy.

“You shouldn't do that to people. Its not nice!”

The kid looked around mumbling to himself, “Who is this kid talking to?”

“What do you mean, are you joking with me?” Young Quinn couldn't understand why this boy was acting so oddly.

“Are you talking to me?” The older boy asked. He pointed towards himself with one hand while the other moved to Quinn. It waved back and forth in front of his face as some might do to a blind person or someone spacing out. But Quinn wasn't blind or spacing out.

This boy was so rude!

Quinn had reflexively closed his eyes when the hand neared him, a habit in grained with in him. Quinn made to push the offending hand away from him, but his slap meet nothing. The mean boy must have stopped then.

As he slowly opened his eyes, Quinn was met with a shocked face as well as his hand waving around, stirring what looked like smoke. Where did that come from? Is there a fire?! He couldn't smell anything.

It took Quinn a moment to realize the boy's hand was missing. He slowly stopped moving his hand and right before his eyes, a murky hand appeared.

Instead of running scared as most would have done, Quinn quickly became fascinated.

“Hi! I'm Quinn!”

“Hello, and um...I don't know my name.”

“Well, you're a ghost right?” At his nod, Quinn continued. “I'll call you that!”

They became fast friends, both being lonely and in need of someone. Quinn, who was too shy and Ghost, who was now only seen by this small boy.

They talked almost everyday for hours. Sharing feelings and thoughts like any normal pairing of friends.

***

Its been almost seven years now since the two boys came together. The day was progressing normally, Quinn was telling Ghost about his annoying math teacher. They had an agreement, Ghost did not bother Quinn in class or in the bathroom. The class so that he can concentrate and well, the bathroom is pretty simple to guess.

“The guy is such a pain. Everyone thinks he is so awesome and cool, but he isn't. He is always trying to be funny and act like our friend but never teaches us what we need to know!”

“Yeah, something bothers me about that teacher. I always hated him as well … I think.”

Quinn noticed his friends reaction. He was getting depressed again. This always happened when he tried to remember his past. Quinn wished there was some way to help him, but no matter what they tried Ghost remembered nothing before his death.

“Is it me or does it seem like that guy is staring at me?” Ghost asked hesitantly.

Quinn looked to the boy in question, Sean maybe? It did look like it. 'Interesting' Quinn thought.

“Well do something towards him and maybe we'll find out.”

I doubt it, no one else ever has. It always ends up being someone behind me.” Ghost was getting down again.

“Hey, you never know. You found me remember?” Quinn gave a reassuring smile.

Ghost returned it easily. Quinn could always make him feel better.

He raised his hand and simply waved at the other boy.

They were both in for quite a shock when the boy waved back easily in answer.

“He can see me.” Ghost gasped.

They ran to him, excited beyond belief but still a bit unsure. Quinn had to make sure, positively, that this was real. He grabbed the boy and pulled him to the nearest secluded area.

“Your Sean right?” Quinn asked quickly.

“Uh, yeah, and your Quinn?”

Quinn was a little shocked the boy knew his name, but brushed it off and nodded quickly.

“Who were you just waving at?”

“Your friend here, duh, he waved at me, remember?” Sean pointed to Ghost, behind Quinn.

'Oh, wow' both boys thought.

“You can see me?” Ghost asked shakily.

“Uh, yeeaaaah. Are you new?”

“Sean, he's not new, he's dead.” Quinn knew he wasn't being nice or conciderate to Sean or his friend, but his feelings of excitement, fear and concern for his best friend made it hard for him to be cautious.

“You're funny. He's not dead, he is standing right there. The dead don't go to school that I'm aware of.” Sean joked, trying to pass it off as a silly prank.

“No, he really is. This is a ghost, Sean. One that only I could see. Until now that is.”

After spending the next few minutes before the bell with a shocked face, moving his hand in and out of Ghosts form, Sean finally decided to meet up with them after school.

[So any thoughts on who should play the boys? <3]
