Sidewalk talk

The consistent sound of my feet hitting the concrete pavement dragged me through my neighborhood as I walked to my house. Today had been the worst day. I forgot my earphones at home. I received yet another F on a biology test. And to top it all off I found out that my crush liked someone else.

Hunter Adams had been the only thing on my mind since the day he devilishly smirked at me from across the classroom last semester. We became friends a few weeks after that when my my math teacher, Mr. Benson, assigned my seat right next to his. Hunter flirted with me everyday. I couldn't talk to him fully at first, someone with such chocolatey brown eyes and luscious black hair is hard to warm up to. It wasn't until January, last month, that I started flirting back.

I thought back to the incident today.

{flashback}
I threw my head back laughing at a joke hunter told me.

"Josie, why are you laughing that was such a bad joke" , he said to me holding back laughter, only making mine even more uncontrollable.

I gained my composure and sighed. I quickly remembered something he told me earlier.

"Hey, weren't you going to tell me who you're crush is?" I asked, curiosity ringing in my voice.

"Oh yeah... I-it's no one" , he brushed off, his face turning Scarlett.

A lump of hope welled in my throat. 'It could be me' , I thought.

"No, tell me", I said reaching for his hand.

"Okay..." he said reluctantly. " Well there's this girl, she's in this class."

My heart leaped.

"She's sitting really close to me now"

Butterflies were going frantic in my stomach.

"Her names Emily"

My heart broke in two. Of course he doesn't like me. Why would he?

I thought more about Emily Summers. She was a really nice, quiet girl with pretty features. Her hair was always soft, her teeth are super white, and her body was so thin. I couldn't find one flaw.

My thoughts were interrupted by the rip of my backpack. That was the last straw. I bent down to pick up the contents of my backpack when I heard the sound of a skateboard gradually getting closer.

I turned my head to the direction of the noise only to be face to face with a rather attractive boy.

"You need help", the boy asked.

Flustered I answered, "y-yeah, I guess I do."

He then reached down to help pick up some textbooks. It was then that I got a closer look. Realization dawned on me.

"Graham?" I exclaimed surprised.

"Yep... that's me" , graham said nonchalantly.

My mind wandered. Graham and I had been best friends a while back. We used to hang out almost everyday until he transferred schools in 7th grade. Then a certain memory came to my mind.

{flashback}
Me and Graham had been walking for hours. He took me on an 'adventure' . He does that a lot, just shows up at my door with his trusty skateboard and tells me. "Follow me I have this cool place to show you." Only this time that wasn't what he said.

I was sprawled out on my bed contemplating the meaning of life when I heard a loud knock on my door. I ran downstairs to open it up  to Graham. His eyes looked blood shot and his hair was a mess.

"Josie! There's something I need to tell you."

Of course I followed. Why wouldn't I. I loved him.

He suddenly came to a stop in front of me. We were far enough into the woods to be lost. His ocean blue eyes looked straight into mine. I stood there looking into his eyes as he put both of his hands on my  shoulders leaning in closer.

"Graham wha-"

He smashed his lips onto mine and the world fell away.

Snap snap.

"Earth to Josie", I shook my head bringing myself back to reality. Graham's familiar laughter filled the air.

"Did you ask me something?", I asked curiously.

"Yeah, can I walk you home?", Graham's blue eyes searched for the answer in mine.

"Of course!", a smile crept onto my face.

We walked in silence for a couple of blocks until I had a question.

"Why did you kiss me that day before you transferred schools?"

He came to a sudden stop. I turned around. He was hovering over me. He grew a lot since that day in the woods. I stared into his eyes. His wavy brown hair was hanging in his face.

"Isn't it obvious, Josie?", he reached up to cup my face. My hand curled around his arm.

"I love you"

And that was the last day I thought about Hunter Adams.
