I quietly stirred the straw in my drink, not paying any attention to the boring conversation going on around me. I was having dinner at Lipton's with my boyfriend, Thomas, and 'our' exhausting friends.
"So how was you're trip to Venice?" Thomas asked, earning a mumble from me.
"Wonderful as always", one of them sighed. "Of course we went down the grand canal which gets pretty monotonous after seeing it 5 times."
I rolled my eyes. They never changed. The same old snobby Robinson's. I tapped my fingers to the sound of the piano playing in the background.
It was so beautiful, the notes following each other. I glanced around for a speaker but there wasn't one. Only a handsome man playing the piano.
You watched as his fingers slid across the keys. His eyebrows knit together. His dirty blond hair falling in front of his face as he lifted his hands after each chord. He slightly smirked after playing a bunch of right notes. The passion in his deep blue eyes pulled you in. His concentration continued until he quickly stood up after the end of the song. He glanced around at the many tables of people in their own little worlds until he made eye contact with me.
I quickly looked away after realizing how long I was staring. I quickly scooted to the back of my chair which I didn't know I moved away from. I watched as the piano player quickly gathered his things and made his way to the door.
"What do you think Melanie?" , the sound of Thomas's voice woke me up.
"Um-uh... I-I have to go", I stuttered.
I stood up not caring about the napkin that fell from my lap. I kept my eyes on the door as I walked toward it. As the wind pulled me outside I looked left and right only to see that he was whistling down the sidewalk. I darted towards him.
"Hey! Piano man!" I called after him.
He turned around but kept on walking. "You're talking to me?" he answered with fake curiosity in his masculine voice.
"Yeah... you", I said smirking. He stopped walking. "You're really good at playing piano."
"... Thanks", he glared at me with curiosity.
"I mean it, you play with such passion", I said looking into him.
"What's it to you", he inquired eyebrows raised.
I chuckled and paused. "People love what other people are passionate about."
