"Joe Pipper's come up," David said
"Just super man," grumbled a balding man. "He'll probably put us in uniform this time

I lowered myself gingerly into a spot between David and the bald guy. Torn between starvation and desire to sleep for the next year or so but I opted to eaves drop during lunch break.
As I chewed some stew David looked over. "You should chew more." I didn't realize I wasn't chewing
I swallowed. "True. I'm probably ruining my digestion." I said trying hard go smile.

Deciding that David always loved to talk I switched on a recorder and moved closer.
" well do you know Joe Pipper personally?" I asked
"Well not really I always fetch him from the airport when he comes. He's a good man. Always take care of Jim" he looked over "..oops Pepper there's my wife." He said and run off to his wife.
Joshua really?
This nickname. I rolled my eyes and watched David escort his wife to the end of the line

She wore a blank and white uniform. I don't know if she wore it to set her apart from her co workers or to remind them she worked personally for laura.

At the previous evening she had shown she could be snobbish. As the chess game progressed however, she had began discussing the wedding,telling me about bridesmaids and even making a draw of the wedding dress. Although I was aware that the dress was already plastered on the news paper,I knew she was beginning to trust me. And I felt a little bit more guilty.

I smiled now as the subject of my thoughts approached,carrying a plate of food. I greeted her warmly but her facials showed that h
She wanted me to give up my seat. Grabbing my dinner, I tried working hard on my emotions for the smile to remain in place as I left the bench. Wondering among the tables,I stopped now and then to look for an empty bench and finding none I walked to the fence and learned on it.

Where was Joshua?

When I finished my dinner,I ditched the plate and strolled at the lovely brick courtyard behind the fence. Somewhere in there awaited the two secrets that I wanted. And I was eagerly anticipating that pleasure as I walked.
I stopped.

"Hi,honey?"
I recognized the voice immediately. Unpleasant shivers raced down my spine. I saw Jim walking towards me a mischievous smile playing on his lips

"What brings you here?"
I stepped back quickly.
"Waiting for my husband." I waved my ring and took another step back. What was wrong with me. This was the perfect time, the perfect opportunity to pump out some information from Jim,but my instincts urged me to run.

"Husband?" A sly smile appeared on his face as he moved to close the distance between us. "Husbands can be inconvenient don't you think?"
"Inconvenient?" I blurted out,trying to shrink into the tree. "You better blush that off. You are about to became one in a few ....what? weeks? Days? Maybe."

"Oh,that." Jim made a gesture of dismissal,then placed his hand on me. The flash of disappointment I felt about failing to gain some information was replaced by the fear that I was about to be mauled. "We do things a little differently in the music industry."

"Not me. I'm old-fashioned. Yep that's me,old fashioned. Real old fashioned. Love my husband to infinity."

What was I saying?
Jim put his other hand on the opposite side of my head. My gaze darted to the courtyard gate. Thank God it was still open- hoping to see someone safe. Someone I knew. David,Manuel or even...
Joshua. of course. Joshua. After all he was the husband.

"Am just wild and crazy about Joshua." I forced a dreamy smile on my face. "He's made me the luckiest woman on the entire planet. I don't know how I'd live without him."

His expression softened," I love innocence. But you are incredibly naive."

At that moment Joshua whisked by swinging an empty tray. Prayers answered. Never in that whole week had he looked so damn cute.

"Joshua! Hey! Joshua sweetheart." I called out.
Joshua stopped and looked around.
"There's my sweet pie,the love of my life. My darling husband." Not caring that I sounded like a lost kid I ducked under Jim and said.
"Excuse me will you?"
"Sure thing honey. We'll make it some other time"
Not knowing what to say I nodded and ran off the courtyard.
"Sweetheart," I called out to Joshua sipping around his waist."let me help you so we get out of here."
"What's gotten into you pepper?"

"Ssh" I hushed him."just put an arm around me and don't ask questions. "
"Why?" He raised his voice a little.
"We are supposed to be newly weds! Remember?"

He pulled me closer. He had no idea why I was putting this act,and as I nested sweetly against him,he lowered his face.

Then we saw Jim our of the yard from where I had emerged. I guess he immediately learnt why I was acting.

Allowing no time for second thoughts, he placed a kiss on my lips,he was expecting me to jerk away but instead,my mouth softened,parted and Joshua's tongue slipped inside as if of its own volition. My own tongue came to life,flickering against the tip of his.

What's gotten into Pepper. The feel of her arms around my waist was tantalizing,and I muttered a soft curse as I pulled her under my arm. At first I had no idea why she was putting on that act,but for using me as a house maid for too long I wanted to get even

And from the corner of my eye,I saw Jim get our of the courtyard where Pepper was,I got jealous. I kisses her.

Dear God! I had kisses her as a joke,as a gentle revenge for giving up the bed. But now in that fleeting encounter of tongues and lips,a place deep in my heart shifted,shuddered and remained forever moved.

Shocked, I had pulled back and gazed at her face. Her eyes half closed,gee lips still parted and she seemed somehow lost into it.

But she recovered quickly. Her eyes snapped open. "Wh-wh-what did you do that one for?"

"For Jim's benefit." I let go of her. "She made another move on you didn't he?"

"Yeah. He did. Thanks ...I guess" she said blushing her lips with her fingers lightly.
"That's what I was doing too. Putting a show for Jim."

I wondered if that was true. She had taken advantage of my unexpected kiss, she had kissed me back. It meant nothing to her and me.
It meant nothing..
Nothing.
Still, if I had any sense at all I better not kiss Pepper again.
