Some of you were most likely confused by the turn of events that occurred in Fallen Raine at the end, so here is the full information for you, and if you reread, you will see the hidden clues I kept throughout the book. It's quite obvious, actually.

Malcolm Stark was once a normal man. He was morbid, and there were some psychological problems, but at one point in time he wouldn’t hurt a fly. Never dreamed of doing such a thing.

At the age of twenty-four, he met a woman named Kirsten Miller, and they soon fell in love. They married, and then two years later, Kirsten gave birth to a daughter, Raine Morgan Stark.

But soon Raine’s father became a man possessed, and soon he turned dark and morbid when his relationship with Kirsten began to go downhill. They split and divorced, and Malcolm moved to Mapleton, a laid-back town in California where he could hide away from the world, become a recluse, and live in depression.

But he started to recognize the unfairness in his condition, and decided he wanted to make people as unhappy as his life was.

A year later, after much planning, he struck Mapleton Mall, killing ten others inside the mall and branding it one of the worst massacres in human history.

He was caught, trialed, and sent to jail for his action, sentenced with life imprisonment.

Kirsten was horrified at her ex-husband’s actions, and struck his name from Raine’s, calling her Raine Miller instead of Raine Stark.

When Malcolm was sent to jail, Kirsten and Raine stayed in Massachusetts, where they had originally lived with Malcolm before he moved away cross-country. But everyone knew of Kirsten’s history, and Kirsten was forced to move due to the amount of malicious hate her and Raine received for having once been a part of his family.

In the end they moved to Mapleton, despite her husband’s dark history in that particular town. It was a secret that they were related, and Raine grew up oblivious to the fact that the most notorious killer on the East Coast was her father. It was something Kirsten never wanted Raine to know. She was ashamed at ever having fell in love with someone who so obviously needed medical attention and psychological help.

Raine became obsessed with the case at fifteen when they studied it in history class, and studied until she uncovered the truth. She never told her mother; for fear that her mother would freak out and move them away from Mapleton, a place she had learned to call home after moving before at such a tender, impressionable and vulnerable age.

The information, guilt and realization drove Raine insane, and pushed her into schizophrenia, where one half of her was the normal daughter who had no idea who her father was, and the other half knew everything and dreamed of being the harsh killer her father had become in his later years. She dreamed of being as notorious as Malcolm, as ruthless and deceiving and cunning.

To make her dreams a reality, she arranged with another boy obsessed with murder to pull everything off for the fifteen-year-anniversary of the Mapleton Massacre. His name was Jason Ronan Harris, and he had also been diagnosed with minor traces of bipolar and schizophrenia.

From then on, everything escalated.

To this day, Kirsten Miller remains clueless to her daughter’s condition, and continues to believe that Raine was an innocent victim to the massacre. She still does not know who the killer is and why they copycatted her ex-husband’s actions. She has also still not told Raine the truth about Malcolm, and it is unknown if she plans ever to tell Raine more than the cover story she invented when Raine was younger.

Raine Miller still plots her next massacre, and it is unknown when she will strike.

She has disappeared. While her mother believes she moved to college, she does not attend, and has disappeared off of the map, her whereabouts unknown.

All we know is that this is not the end, but no one knows who or where or why or when she will strike next.

But there’s only one thing we know.

No one is safe.
