you cannot break my heart, for i have already maimed it,
you cannot break my heart, because I broke it myself,
you cannot break my heart, as I did years before,
you cannot break my heart, it shattered already, by my own cruel tongue and my own piercing eyes,
you cannot break my heart, as it lay, after years of despair, in pieces on the floor,
you cannot break my heart, because one day I said 'enough' and it became w h o l e,
you cannot break my heart, for it took e t e r n i t i e s to mend,
you cannot break my heart, because I sowed it up with paper and string, meshed it together with tea and books and love,
you cannot break my heart, after I fixed it with glue and sweet compliments,
you cannot break my heart, like I did before,
you cannot break my heart, because I will not let you,
you cannot break my heart, for as long as I live I shall never give you the ability to hurt me,
to break me, to taint me, to use me,
you cannot break my heart, for it is mine to keep safe and mine to hold.
