I sat on the sea front, picking at my tray of chips as the seagulls flew overhead. Carrie and Ash sat each side of me while Luce and Daisy bickered about something once again. I rested my head on Carrie’s shoulder and footsteps approached us. Regular, familiar footsteps. I turned around to see the familiar shadow of Nick approach. I handed my chips to Carrie and ran towards Nick, throwing my arms around his neck. He wrapped his around my waist and sank his face into my shoulder.

“Candy Floss.” He whispered, tears streamed down my cheeks. I shut my eyes tight, not wanting to see me cry, but he lifted his head from my shoulder and gently kissed the end of my nose.

“Why are you crying?” He whispered,

“Because…” I sniffed. “Because I’m only just getting to know you, and now you leave, and I know that I could never force myself to not let you go to Glamorgan.” Nick rested his head against my own and kissed my nose again.

“Just because I’m going away doesn’t mean I’m ever going to forget about Candy Floss.” His voice was soft and gentle, kind and promising.

“But you might find someone better.” I managed to whisper through my tears.

“How can I find someone better than you?”

“Because I’m a messed up little shit.” I sobbed into his chest. Nick held me tight in his arms. I could hear my friends talking as they ate, but no one came over; they knew it was best to leave Nick and me to talk. Nick lifted my tear-strewn face and looked into my eyes,

“You might be messed up, but I wouldn’t change you for the world.” And his lips collided with mine, kissing them passionately, softly, gently. Our lips moved together until I pulled away. I rested my forehead against his,

“You’re not getting away that easy now.” I whispered.

“As long as you’re mine, I’m happy.” He whispered quietly.

“Is that you asking me out?” I smiled,

“Yeah, will you be my girlfriend, Flo?”

“Yeah, I think I will.” My smile was so great, my heart so amazed, and I felt so happy. There were footsteps behind us. I turned to see Ash and Carrie looking at us. I smiled at them; I just couldn’t help it,

“What you grinning like a Cheshire cat about?” Carrie asked,

“I just asked her out.” Nick replied in my place,

“What’s Avery gonna say about that when he comes home?” Ash asked, envy all over his face.

“I’m nearly 18, he can do nothing.” And there was a click, click, click, behind me. I groaned, turned around and saw the journalist from the other day, Kieran McGee, taking photos once again.

“I’m going to need a restraining order soon, aren’t I?” I asked, subtly gesturing towards McGee. All three of them looked over and saw him. Carrie gestured to Luce and Daisy to come over. They did, and Carrie pointed out the photographer.

“Please can I punch him?” Luce all but begged. I smiled at the brunet and nodded,

“Go scare him, but no punching; you could really do without ABH on your record.”

“I have no record.” Luce smiled cheekily.

“Exactly.” I shouted after him as he strode towards McGee, stood over him and began shouting. I couldn’t not smile as I watched the man getting yelled at, I wasn’t the only one enjoying the view; Nick, Carrie, Daisy, and even Ash, were enjoying watching Luce take all his anger out on someone other than his little brother; Ralf, or in a boxing ring. About five minutes later, Luce strode back, his smile beaming, and wrapped his arm around Daisy’s shoulder.

“Are you two bi-polar about one another?” Nick asked, looking at the pair,

“We love to hate one another.” Luce grinned cheekily, then looked at Daisy’s sparkling green eyes. “She loves me really.” Daisy giggled at Luce’s remark. Her cheeks glowed red.

“I can see that.” Nick remarked. An awkward silence filled the air, only broken by me,

“What does everyone want to do today anyway?” Another silence, “If you don’t make a decision we can just crash at mine, though it’d be two car trips.”

“We could just mess in the sea for a bit?” Ash suggested. The others nodded,

“Sea is a good plan.” Luce remarked. We all headed slowly to the sand. I sat on the sand, looking out into the sea. I looked down the half-wet sand to see my friends footprints being eaten by the waves. I’m not the philosophical type normally, but what if we are all just footprints in the sand, and one day the waves will take us too, maybe just leaving an imprint of what we had been before.

A/N

Yes, it's a short chapter, I know, but I didn't know what else to put in here. I should probably merge it with the previous chapter, but if I do I'll get around to that in editing. I am working on sorting all the loose ends in this, but it might take a while, what with school and everything; assignments in England ain't easy!

Anyway, as ever, vote/comment!
