Chapter 22

**So it's been about four months since I updated, and I started writing this like two months ago but loads of stuffs been going on in my life, and I don't really know what to do with this story anymore D:. I know I'm really excusey, but this stories kind of deflated so this'll be the last chapter. Won't be much of an ending, probably not an ending at all, but it'll get like 10 reads so it's alright.**

*Harry's POV:*

Her head snapped towards the doorway, the once gleaming red hair barely flinching from it's mangled knot. A sharp breathe caught in her throat and I watched as she helplessly strained against her bindings. The rattle of chains echoed throughout the hall, leaving me only just able to hear the cloak stop, hesitate, and then quicken. "H-he's coming, you have to hide, if he finds you're dead! ....Harry move!" It was then that I realised Hermione and Ron were already up and waiting for me to do something, as I was sat there motionless, still staring at Lily.

"We're not leaving without you," Hermione hissed, she began running towards Lily, her wand ready to unlock her. She reached her, she was whispering the spell, fast but quiet, it was working, the chains were unravelling, but non if it was quite fast enough. Suddenly, time slowed down, I could see everything so clearly in one glance, and as the triumphant high-pitched laugh vibrated through the air I knew exactly what to do. It would be just like last year, in the graveyard, my wand would fight against his and while we were both stuck in battle, the others would escape. So I was ready, I saw his thin, spindly hands clasp around my wands twin and I shouted "Expelliarmus!" just as he produced an unverbal spell and a sharp blast of red light. Hermione fell backwards away from Lily's chair and slid about a meter. I could hear Ron stumble and break something behind me, and saw Lily slowly fall loose of the chains as the chair toppled over. Her body landed on the floor, a tangled heap to weak to move any more. But my hand stayed pointed at Voldemort, both of our spells already met in the middle, two flaming rays of light. I started forming a plan quickly in my mind where the others could escape, but the one thing I'd forgotten was that Voldemort would not be here alone.

Ten seconds after his entrance, three more Death Eaters came running in, there wands immediately going towards me, at which Voldemort quickly shouted "Leave Potter, he's mine, take care of his pathetic friends." A sinister smile crept up Bellatrix's face as she stared at Hermione. She laughed, a sound full of complete inhumour, and then pointed her dark, curved wand at Hermione's turned back. "Crucio!" Her cackle rang out louder as Hermione's grip was forced away from Lily, she was writhing on the floor screaming, and Ron made a lunge for Bellatrix but another Death Eater, Dolohov, paralysed him without making a sound, and bound him with ropes - which wasn't really necessary. The final Death Eater, Lucius, of course, took one glance at Lily's inability to even stand up, laughed, and kick her down. I heard a crack as the boot connected with her chest and my beam was nearly broken, I yelled out in anger, but knew there was nothing I could do. If I broke the spell with Voldemort's wand, we'd all die.

"This is feeling all too familiar, Potter. But you see, this time you will not get away on pure luck, you shall not get away at all. You are going to die tonight, and so are your friends, because I know you all too well, you love to play the hero." His snake-like eyes bore into mine, daring me to let go, but I wasn't going to. Yet I saw, and so did Voldemort, that this time, the beam was coming towards me. My wand started to vibrate more and more and my sweaty hands were struggling to keep a grip. The beam got closer, I was no longer watching the others, I was only watching the beam, and so was Voldemort. Inches away from the tip of my wand, my wand was vibrating too much, it was slipping, so slowly, I felt it slide out of my grip and make it's descend down towards the ground. The long strand of light stayed connected to the wand, until it hit the floor and the light shattered. I scrambled to pick up my wand, but at no use, as as soon as I had it in my hand Voldemort disarmed me.

The thin stick of wood that had been my last hope soared through the air in a perfect arc, and then clattered down in a flurry of sparks and echoing crashes. I knew there was so use in going after it, even if I got it there was no way of escaping. His laugh pierced my ears, stabbing at them with every second of noise. "There is no escape now Potter." His mouth twisted into what was probably supposed to be a smile, but looked too unnatural on his snake-like face to be classified as anything above a sneer. I saw something stir out of the corner of my eye but paid no attention. I knew without looking that Hermione, Ron and Lily were all either immobile or unconscious, and I hoped that was it. "Avada Ke-"

"NO!" I heard it at the same as I saw it. Lily propelled herself as forcefully as she could in front of me, Malfoy acting a second too late to her movement, he must have thought her too collapsed already to need any restraint on his part. The jet of green erupted like lightening out of my wand's twin and hit her straight through the middle, as if it was a blade. She looked as if she were suspended in the air for a second, flying, but then crumpled to the floor with a resounding thud. Everyone in the room stood too shocked to move for a moment, just staring at the body. A sharp, painful sound like a sob fell out of my mouth, I caught the twinkle of her piercing green eyes for the last time while I watched her eyes droop. Voldemort looked at me and then back at the young girl, too young. I could see the thoughts racing through his mind, he was trying to work out if he could still attempt to kill me without the same outcome as 15 years ago. I didn't know either, but I took his hesitation as a chance for me to fire back. "AVADA KEDAVRA!" My first Unforgivable Curse, and the worst one. The spell hit Voldemort just as it had done to Lily, straight through the middle. I didn't hesitate to see what happened, for there were still horcruxes left so I knew he couldn't actually be killed. I pulled Lily into my arms and ran towards the fireplace, met by Hermione and Ron who had forced out away from their Death Eaters. Without a single glance back, we were gone.

*This isn't the ending I had in mind when I first started this story, and it's really short but hopefully I'll right something better than Lily Evans soon.*
