Maddy's POV.
Erik stepped towards me, still holding the sword. My breath caught in my throat as he got closer & closer to me. I stood up slowly up, my legs felt like jello. When I got up I ran over to Erik, hugging him, never letting go of him. I began to cry, but Erik petted my hair while hushing me.
"Shh... It's okay Maddy, it's okay. You're safe with me." Erik whispered.
I looked up to see his white mask, i reached for his mask, but he flinched. I hesitated at first, but built up the courage & eventually took hold of his half white mask.
Carefully, I peeled it off, revealing Erik's face to the world. The audience gasped as they all saw Erik's deformed face. Erik squeezed my shoulders as he knew that they thought that he was monster behind a mask.
"Pay no heed to them, Erik. How can you be so oblivious to the face that I... I love you." I whispered in his ear.
For a moment, everything fell silent. Erik's expression change to astonishment.
It was true. I love Erik. I love him will all my heart. I never met anyone like him, so daring, & dangerous yet soft & caring. His presence alone could make me feel emotions no one could ever accomplish. I didn't care about his features.
"Maddy." He whispered this time.
I continued. "You're the one I love & always will love."
Erik's lips began to close the space between us. My breathing began to pick its pace & my body tensed. His lips were only an inch away from mine when we were interrupted by a voice.
"Well, well, well."
Erik & I both turned to discover Sam standing by the edge of the stage, holding something in his hand. Erik's body immediately stiffened.
"How romantic. The prima donna whore falls in love with the homicidal psycho. No wait; the monster in Paris." Sam laughed. "Can't say I've ever seen that before. Erik's breathing quickened as his fists balled up with anger. but he didn't move from my side.
"See this gun?" Sam waved the gun he had in his hand. "I can easily kill the both of you with only 2 bullets."
I looked over to Erik, but he was glaring at Sam. The audience had turned their attention to the scene in the stage by now.
"So who will it be, Maddy? Chose him & both of you will die with this gun or chose me & we'll runaway happy together?"
I knew I would pick Erik in a heartbeat, but I refuse to let Erik get hurt because of me. My heart pounded loudly as Sam impatiently waited for an answer. It was up to me now. I was the one responsible for saving the both of us or causing our deaths.
All my life I've always done what's right nice always been unselfish. But this time, it's about time to think about what I wanted. I knew there would be consequences, but sometimes it just feels worth the risk doing what your heart rightly wants.
I wanted Erik, waiting for him to make my decision for me, but he just stared blankly at me. "Erik." I answered, my eyes never leaving his. His eyes-brows furrowed & another tears escaped his eyes.
"Your choice." Sam called & pull the trigger.
The gun shoot; I saw the gun go off so I pushed Erik out of the way. Then the bullet hit my chest. I fell down to the floor, holding my chest where the bullet hole was. I lifted my heavy head to see Erik's pale face in terror as he saw his bride lying on the floor, bleeding.
