Ten days later, in the United States
I stood right outside the house door, key in the lock. I had looked through the windows , gone all the way around the house, twice . No cars, no lights on, the doors were locked..... Nobody was home. Still, I couldn't shake the feeling that someone , or something, was in my house . Slowly , quietly , I turned the key in the lock. With an almost silent click , I opened the door. Before I took a single step , the lights were thrown on and a loud "SURPRISE !" Filled my ears .
"SON OF A BITCH !" I shouted in surprise , jumping backwards , back out the door . I heard laughter coming from inside , and poked my head in to see my father, Nick, sharing a laugh with my uncles and my aunt . I squinted at them angrily as I saw my best friend , Tori, giggling with them.
" You couldn't have at least warned me !?!?!? " I laughed , finally in a good mood . She giggled ever louder until finally she could speak.
" It wouldn't have bean a surprise then." she smiled
I was gonna say something more , but then I noticed something laying on the table . A necklace , made of jade and steel. It looked brand new . My father caught my eye and came over .
" Would you believe me if I told you that necklace is a few hundred years old ."
"No ." I scoffed
"Well it is . I pulled it from the site ten days ago. " he smiled .
"And now it's yours ."
"Wait..... Your giving me an archeological artifact that's several hundred years old?" I asked, surprised
" Its only a few hundred years old " Dad replied indignantly.
" Like you? " I joked, putting on the necklace . This was turning out to be the best birthday yet .
