Day Four

------------

When I got to school, Kyle was waiting at my locker for me. 'Oh great' I thought to myself. This was just what I needed.

"Hey babe. Haven't seen you sent yesterday." He said loud enough to get everyone's attention.

"I'm not your babe." I practically snarled.

"Sure your not." He put his arm through mine. I tore it away and began to open my locker. On the mirror, in bright red lipstick, the word BITCH was written in blocky letters. A few people behind me snickered.

I turned towards Kyle, with tears in my eyes and swiftly walked towards the bathroom.

I couldn't cry. My tears were sticking to my eyes, making them sting. I blinked them back and washed my hands. Washing my hands was a compulsion. It calms me down.

I left the bathroom right as the bell went off.

Elizabeth wasn't first period. Or second period. Or third. She showed up at lunch with a red nose and really pale face.

"Are you sick?" I asked.

"Nah." She said sarcastically.

"I'm sorry." I frowned sympathetically.

"It's fine. I've learned my lesson. Don't do drugs after midnight." She paused and laughed but it came out more like a wheeze and slowly turned to a cough.

I hit her hard on the back to help.

"Thanks" she wheezed out. "Hey," she started, "I'm really sorry about yesterday. I promise I will make it up to you. Sushi tomorrow night?"

"Sure...," I agreed. The bell rang.

After school, I biked to the library. Callie saw me and waved. A few other people were in the library. I recognized one of them. The boy from the mall. He was busy reading a book I didn't recognize but had really pretty cover art. I didn't stare long enough for Callie to notice.

"Hey. What's up?" She asked quietly.

"Nothing much..." I said.

"Hey... Are you okay?" She asked.

"Yeah.. I just... Yeah..." The look she have me indicated that she obviously knew I was lying. I pulled out my phone and showed her my locker.

"Oh.

Oh I'm so sorry." She said.

"It's fine..."

"It's not." She said, somewhat sternly.

Charlie walked up to the desk with a stack of books. "Um hey..." He said, meeting my gaze. "Hey Hope. Hey Callie." He looked at his books.

"Hey Charlie. This it for today?" Callie asked. He nodded and handed her his card. He smiled shyly at me. Callie raised her eyebrow in a motherly fashion. Charlie looked down and left with his books.

"So..." Callie began.

"Nope." I cut her off, "Nope. No."

"Nope."
