Don't Stop Being You

You had always had a hard time fitting in, even though this was the fourth year of school, and it got you into a ton of trouble with the rulers of the school, especially a certain Prince of Slytherin. He seemed to personally have it out for you, to the point of any form of abuse. Today happened to be verbal, yesterday he let his cronies beat you. He always seemed off about it also, whether it was he would hesitate with his sneer, or flinch lightly when you were hit. You also hated the fact that he picked on you for your house, (house that's not Slytherin). Sighing, you made your way out of Potions, trying to avoid the Slytherin Prince.

It was Valentine's Day, and love was in the air. The Prince of Slytherin was wandering around, avoiding Pansy Parkinson and her lack of space. He sighed, walking briskly up the stairs to the top of the Astronomy Tower, not noticing he wasn't alone. He ran a pale hand through his blonde locks, heaving a heavy sigh. He looked to the fading sky, watching rain clouds roll into his line of vision. Quietly watching them, he heard a small hiccup. Turning, he scanned the top of the tower, drawing his wand and lighting it.

"Whoever you are, answer now,  and maybe I won't hex you into next month!" he angrily stalked towards the corners, watching for a response.

"And you would like that wouldn't you, Malfoy? How different is it from how you treat me now." You made your way out from the darkest corner of the Tower, tears glistening on your cheeks in the wandlight. He faltered, wand dipping lightly, before he sneered at you, then shook his head in disgust.

"Don't try  to fight me, (Your surname), I only came here to avoid Parkinson. I don't want to ruin the love fest for you. Carry on, love, I won't disrupt." You cock your head in confusion, an innocent look on your face. He sighs and flicks his hand in a "carry on" motion. You shake your head and come closer to him, curiosity drawing you to the brooding Prince. He flinched at the nearness, but didn't move away. Instead, he sat on the floor, eyes facing the clouds. You sat closer to him, wanting to know what was bothering the boy. He closed his eyes and sighed, ready to explain something to you.

"I don't hate you. In fact, it's the complete opposite. I envy you. But I won't, no... I can't love you. It will get us into trouble, but Merlin, I can't hate you. I love everything you do, from the cute little way you bite your lip, to the way you stand up for your friends and Housemates but not yourself. Why?" He turns to you, eyes holding the question he wants answered. You blink, surprised, mouth parted slightly. He loved you, but couldn't? What was this, Romeo and Juliet?

"I never hated you either, but you weren't always my favorite.... I wanted to understand you. You don't have to try to do anything, leaving me alone can keep you safe or whatever you want. But do take into mind, I don't want you to treat me like this because I am not within your status limits. If that is all, goodbye Draco Malfoy. I  must be going, dinner starts in less than an hour." You go to stand, but stop when he stands behind you and reaches for your wrist. Turning, you catch his smirk and a shine in his eyes.

"I said I can't love you, doesn't mean I won't. Besides, what's the fun in a relationship with no rush of adventure?" He grins like the Cheshire cat and leans in, brushing your hair back and placing a small kiss on your forehead, before backing away. "Happy Valentine's Day love. See you tomorrow at the same place." He disappeared so fast, you thought he had Disapperated, and touched your forehead gently. Maybe getting in trouble with the Slytherin Prince wouldn't be so bad, as long as he was your Valentine for  a while longer.
