"What happened a few days ago over at Jace's house?" Zoey asked eagerly.
I couldn't tell her or anyone else in that matter. I wasn't ready for anyone to know. Heck, I don't even know why I told Jace, but ever since Jace came to my house things have been strange to say the least. I don't know where we stand.
"Nothing. . . " I simply said.
Zoey squinted her eyes. "Nothing?" She got up from lying on my bed where Cassie, Ava, Bella and I currently were watching cheesy romance movies. "Scar, you were acting pretty strange when um. . ." She paused rubbing the back of her neck. "when Jace's cousin Maddie came over. Why did she think you were Blair?"
I shrugged playing it cool. "I don't know. I just freaked out."
"Okay, sure Scarlett." Bella laughed, and I laughed along with her nervously.
"Guys just drop it." Ava said as she looked over at me with a smile. I knew she wouldn't say anything.
"I don't even know why I agreed to this. It's a school night, we all need to go to sleep." I said getting up and grabbing blankets from my closet.
"You're definitely right Scar." Cassie laughed turning off the movie. "Zoey, Bella, and I will sleep on the floor, Ava you sleep with Scarlett."
"Sounds like a plan." Zoey said. "Scarlett pass me one of those blankets please." She asked. I nodded and tossed a blanket in her direction.
"Hey Scar," Bella suddenly said. "There's something under your bed-"
Before Bella even finished her sentence I jumped up and grabbed the diary. "Oh, that's nothing." Thankfully no one saw, especially Cassie because she knew what Jace's diary looked like.
---
"We probably shouldn't have stayed up so late." Zoey yawned.
I laughed and shook my head. "You're always so tired Zoey it's funny." I said.
"Very funny." She said, her voice coded in sarcasm and I couldn't help but smile.
We were currently sitting in science class but again, I wasn't listing to anything the teacher was saying. I really needed to pay more attention in class.
As soon as the bell rang Zoey and I jumped up and headed for the door. No time to waste. Thankfully, I only had one more class left and it was with Bella. If I'm going to be honest, this day has been going by very slow to say the least.
"Hey, so there's this party and we should all go. I'll tell the boys-" Zoey was cut off.
"Scarlett!" A voiced yelled, cutting Zoey off in mid sentence.
A hand tugged at my shoulder, and that hand turned me completely around. "Scarlett," The person repeated. I didn't know her at first glance. "You don't remember?" She asked shaking her head. No she didn't look like she went to this school. She had short black hair that ended at her shoulders and grey eyes. Her face looked scared. "Look it doesn't matter I just need to tell you this." She said quickly.
I looked over at Zoey with a questioning look on my face. "I'm sorry, but do I know you?" I asked and she laughed in response. But the type of laugh that sent shivers through your body.
"No, I'm sorry I had to do this. I had to follow Maddie or else he probably would have killed me and I can't have that!"
"I'm sorry, I don't know what you're talking about." I said stepping back from her tight grip around my shoulders.
"Most of all tell Jace, I'm sorry. I didn't want him to take her. Especially because of what he did to you." She finished and just as quickly as those words came out she was gone.
Then it hit me.
That was Spencer Collins, Madison's ex-best friend. I remember before I went to court she told me that Madison was going to lie about everything. Something also happened between them but when I was friends with Madison she would never tell me, so what was she talking about this time? Spencer also must have talked to Madison, or else how would she have known to call me Scarlett?
"Scarlett," Zoey said slowly, "what the hell was that all about?"
"I don't know yet," I said with a sigh turning to face her, "I'll explain everything later."
"Ok anyways..." Zoey went on to talk about the party.
I couldn't help but think about Spencer Collins. I was too busy wondering about her that I couldn't even hear what Zoey was saying. Spencer always said that Maddie was a lair and I shouldn't have trusted her in the first place. I wonder what happened between them anyway. Anytime I would ask Maddie she would get sad and for the rest of the day she would be in a bad mood. So whenever it came to Spencer Collins I would avoid the subject and so did Maddie.
"Do you think you're coming Scar? My brother said it'll be cool."
"Scar?"
I turned my head to face Zoey. "Yeah sure. I'll ask the others." I forced a smiled.
"Are you ok?" Zoey asked putting her hand on my shoulder. "You look like you've seen a ghost. . . Is it because of what that girl said? It's probably nothing, she's definitely on something."
"No," I lied, "I'm just really tired from staying up all night."
But at the moment I realized that Dr. Collins back at the hospital was Spencer Collins dad.
