Contrary to the overly popular adage "The best defense is a good offense", reality and basic logic dictates that a perfect defense is best in any circumstance. If an enemy attacks while you have only a rudimentary and hastily constructed offense, then it lost. If you attack and then the enemy defends successfully, then launches a counterattack, it is also a loss. An even basic defense can be built upon to become a perfect defense, or it can shelter and harbor a powerful offense. Changing viewpoint, when a perfect defense and a perfect offense collide, they neutralize each other, because each is perfect. However, while both are nullified, one was successful and the other failed. It was the goal and purpose of the attack to advance, the front lines remain the same. Therefore it failed. It was the goal and purpose of the defense to hold fast, and the front lines remain same. Therefore it succeeded. One cannot defeat an enemy that possesses a perfect defense, it is up to the enemy to defeat himself. It is up to you to defeat yourself. In the end, a perfect defense is the key to not losing, and by extension, the key to winning. Offense has its place, but its place is not before defense's.
