"I wish you were here to be my valentine."
There was more written on the card, but those were the words that stuck out to me at first.
The rest of the card (Alyssa held it open as she read it, so I could read it too) was beautifully written.
Hi Lily,
You didn't know me very well, but we were in the same math and history class. I always wanted to talk to you. I always wanted to tell you how beautiful you are. I really liked you. I loved the way that you would continually tuck your hair behind your ear while you worked on calculus. It made me smile whenever you muttered random numbers out loud while you worked. When I heard the news that you had... you know... I actually cried. I couldn't understand why a girl as pretty and incredible as you had decided to make that decision. Now, I'll always wonder if anything would have been different if I had been willing to talk to you. To compliment you. To tell you that I wanted you to be mine. It's too late, I know, and I can never go back, but I wanted to give you a valentine. I hope you can somehow read this and know I miss you.
Love,
Your Regretting andToo-Secret Admirer.
