I've done a bit more studying, but have found almost, but not quite, nothing. Not exactly nothing, but not exactly something. I tried going through the shadow- that's right, I've decided it's less of a cloud and more of a shadow- and it worked. My arms went straight through. My cover-up was giving Cecil a hug, but when I hugged him, the shadow seemed to disperse a little. So, maybe it's related to his emotions? I monitored it later in the day, and it had reverted to its normal shade.
