"I need to locate someone." He whispers, and then kneels down towards me. Once again, instead of running away in fear, I move towards him so I can hear him better. I'm within inches of his lips, I'm sure he could kill me if he wanted, but then again, I'm fairly certain he could have killed me already if that was his plan.
"What?" I whisper back, he'd not really made himself clear, so I needed to make sure I'd heard right.
"I need to locate someone." He repeats with urgency.
Well, seven billion people in this world, I'm sure finding one person will be a piece of cake. I'm mentally laughing at my joke, and notice him smiling this weird little smile. Not sure what he's grinning out, and I'm not really sure I want to know either.
"Okay, um, who?"
"My twin." Well, this is good, at least he knows who we're supposed to be locating, plus, how hard can it possible be to find another green person?
"Does your twin, um, look like you?" I whisper. He seems a bit confused, then he looks down at himself, then towards my parent's tent, and then back towards me.
"Follow me." He whispers quickly, then turns and walks towards the mountains without even waiting to see if I would follow.
In normal people's minds, this is the perfect chance to go running like a maniac screaming and yelling for help, and yet, I find myself grabbing my sandals and chasingafter him. Call me insane, but when a tall, skinny, alien with pale green, almost glowing skin, says to follow him, I'm just interested enough to actually do it.
Now, I never minded following the dude, but really cannot stand hiking, and yet here I was hiking next to a glowing green man, in the middle of the night. He's a skilled hiker, and I can barely walk up steps, to make things worse, we end up hiking far up into the mountains for the remainder of the night and into the early dawn hours. The whole time, he doesn't speak, and I'm too out of shape and sleep deprived to talk and keep up with him at the same time, several times he slows down to let me catch up, but still it's like he's floating, and these strap on sandals weren't my best idea. I am just ready to be wherever it is we're supposed to be, but it seems like he's never going to stop walking.
How much longer is this going to take?
"Do not worry, we are almost there." Okay, so that was a bit freaky. I thought it, and he answered me. What if he can read minds? What if he decides I know too much? What if he decides he doesn't need my help? I mean an alien that can read minds doesn't exactly need a white city girl's help, right? What if this was just some huge elaborate scheme to lure me to my death? Man that whole, 'running and screaming' thing is starting to sound better and better
"Do not do that." He smiles, and I feel my mouth drop. Flies could seriously fly in and out of my mouth at this point, hell, pretty sure a plane could fly in and out right about now.
"Do what?" I ask as innocently as I can.
"I can read minds, there is nothing to worry about. I mean you no harm, I just need a white city girl's help, as you so elegantly put it."
Well, talk about invasion of privacy.
He grins and I roll my eyes, really there's no point to not say it, he's going to hear me regardless.
"Okay, enough with the mysteries, why did you drag me all the way out here, why do you need me?" I'm a bit annoyed, both by the fact that he can read my mind, and because he had me walking when I should have been sleeping.
"I needed to be completely safe and away from any prying eyes. Plus, I needed to show you several different things. They are in there." He gestures to a cave, and once again the thought of my untimely death flashes through my mind.
"You're telling me, the person you just met, that everything you want to show me is in a cave? Oh, well, I feel safe." I'm a bit more sarcastic than I originally intended to be, but it's early, I'm tired, and I've yet to have any coffee, and in my defense, he just pointed to a hole in the side of a mountain.
"Yes, are you coming?" He grins and walks back towards the cave, and instead of tossing it all up to a crazy dream, I follow him into the cave.
I'm not even sure you could even call it a cave, it's more of a small hole in the wall with nothing but rocks and bugs on the inside. If the bugs start talking, I swear I'm going to institutionalize myself.
"Nice cave, I'm very glad I traipsed through the mountains for it, very unlike the thirty-nine other caves we passed on the way up here." Someone, get me coffee immediately, I'm only going to get worse from here.
He smiles, but ignores me, and walks to the back wall of the cave, and begins running his hands along the wall. He looks like someone searching for a light switch, and he's mumbling something under his breath. "It is here somewhere," he mumbles, "AH! Here it is!" He pushes a piece of the wall, and I shit you not, the whole wall moves and reveals this huge hidden bunker. It's like the Batcave in here.
"Okay, so it's a little different than the other thirty-nine other caves." I'm a bit embarrassed, but really, how was I to know that the wall would reveal something out of the ordinary? Then again, the green man should have prepared me for this. The man laughs, then walks in the, well for lack of a better word, Batcave.
Inside the cave, it is even more like the Batcave than I could have imagined. On the left wall, there's three rows of cars, trucks, bikes, ATVs, and what I can only assume is a space ship. On the right wall it's like this perfect little one bedroom apartment. There's a bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, huge storage area, and this cool rotating clothing dresser thing. Everything anyone would ever need is there, and neatly organized too. And in the center of the room/bunker, there's a serious technology center, it's like NASA on steroids.
"Where do you think NASA got their layout plans?" He grins, and again I roll my eyes. Seriously, the whole mind reading thing is a lot more invasive than I ever imagined it to be.
"You've really gotta stop doing that." I mumble as I absorb everything and he just grins.
"Welcome to my home, Lennox, well, one of them at least" Seriously, how is it okay that he knows my name, yet I'm not even sure what planet he's from, let alone his name?
"I did not read your mind that time, I have been watching you. And my name is, Titus."
"Well, somehow that doesn't make me feel any better, Titus. What did you want to show me in here, anyways?" I mumble under my breath and he grabs my shoulders.
"You are going to need to sit down. I suggest you sit on my bed, so when you pass out you will not hurt yourself." He walks me to the bed and flashes of alien children running around this place streak through my mind.
"Not like that." He smiles simply and somehow softly, and I roll my eyes. The whole, not reading my mind thing didn't last long.
He sits me on the bed and tells me to brace myself, I'm not really sure what to expect, but at least he's standing. "Do not scream, please." He is practically begging me not to scream, but not explaining why I'm not supposed to scream, thanks makes me feel so comfortable. He then moves his hands to his head and starts pulling the green skin off of his body. Once again, I can feel my mouth turn into Grand Central Station, but as soon as I realize what is actually taking place I pass smooth out. In my defense, I'm fairly certain anyone in that situation would have done the exact same thing.
