Derek stumbled into his loft sweaty and tired and just plain disappointed. He should be able to smell him a country away. What was wrong with his sent? It was hidden. Almost purposely. That night Derek wasn't satisfied with the work he'd done. So he sat on his bed without saying a word. He thought about Stiles and how much he got on him for the stupidest reasons. All this self-hatred and regret.
Wait, why is feeling this way. Derek is an alpha. He should be the leader and not worry about what's gonna happen to Stiles. Although, there is a secret. And this secret has never been told because Derek doesn't know how he feels about it. He's gone through all of the stages of grief with this secret. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.
These stages has been the story of his life ever since Scott and Stiles tripped their way into Derek's life. And so has this secret. Now he's an alpha. He knew all of the responsibility that came with that title and he was ready to take the shot but Derek has it the worst of all alpha's. All of Beacon Hills was filled with powerful teenagers. They were his only choice. But the one person he wasn't able to turn because Scott didn't give Derek his blessing was Stiles.
Three days before Stiles went missing Derek noticed how Stiles was advancing in lacrosse without the help of a bite. It took a while for Derek to work up the courage to ask Scott about his coming of an idea.
"Scott, I need to speak with you." Scott thought Derek was suspiciously serious. "What's wrong? Did something happen with Jackson?" Scott looked around worrisome. "No, no, just listen. Today, when you didn't play, you saw Stiles out there right?" "Yeah, he was great!" With a goofy smile, he turned to Stiles and waved. "Okay, he did all of that without wolf powers. Imagine him if he had--" "No!" Derek was quickly interrupted with Scott had realized the offer Derek was putting up. "But, Scott, he make a great--" "NO! No. You're not putting this curse that you've put on Erica, Boyd, and Issac on Stiles." Derek turned around in frustration but turned back to Scott and said, "Don't you think this boy has already been cursed. Being your friend, getting included on all of this madness. We wouldn't have to worry about protecting him if I turned him." There was a silence. "I said no. Peter said you can get the bite and become a powerful werewolf... or you can die. I'm not taking that chance with Stiles. I've lost enough in my life."
But what no one realized is that Derek wasn't just offering this to make him even more powerful. This had something to do with that secret. This huge secret kept from all and feared of publicity by Derek. Now here he sits, with this same secret although it affects him more because he is rushed with the memory of the pool, the kanima, and Stiles. For one more second, if Stiles didn't sacrifice his phone to save Derek then Derek wouldn't even be sitting on that exact bed, in that exact loft.
Derek appreciated Stiles but Stiles just didn't know it yet. Stiles and the pack didn't know a lot of things. All having to do with that one secret.
