I stood in line waiting for my name to be recorded in the attendants. I step up once it was my turn and a peacekeeper roughly grabbed my hand. I winced as they pricked my finger and stamped my blood under my name. They nodded and motioned for me to move forward. I found myself in a line of people in my age group. We arranged ourselves into rows facing the large stage. Gemini Bell-view stands up in the front a smile plastered across heaps of shine.
I always had mixed emotions towards the capitols styles, I didn't know what to think of this one, her face was completely covered in sparkles that trailed down her neck and onto her dress making sure not one inch of her look wasn't shining. Behind her sitting in chairs where a arrangement of people from the Capitol. I couldn't recognize most, but I saw Cashmere and Gloss peering over the crowed with curiosity lurking in their eyes. The screens around the square lit up and the chattering crowed lowered to a murmur, then silence as the informational video from President Snow blasted through the area. Once it was finished, Gemini looked over the crowd beaming.
"A truly wonderful video." Her voiced boomed through the microphone. "Welcome everyone, well let's get straight to it." A couple of cheers rand through the air as she strolled to the glass bowl containing the names of all the girls from ages 12-18. A shutter of anticipation hung over us as she dug her hand into the bowl. She hoped back to the microphone and ever so slowly unfolded the name.
"Glimmer Elmore!" She called.
I froze, my gaze straight. I didn't move. Someone beside me nudged my arm urging me forwards. I snapped back to reality and remembered what I was to do next. I stepped forward and quickly walked to the stage, forcing myself to smile and waved out at the sea of people. They cheered. At least I think they did. I couldn't hear anything. The panic sizzling in the back of my brain seemed to be blocking it all out. I instantly started thinking of what I was going to do. The bow. I could use a bow. I could do this. I hear my name again and look up.
A boy from my year now stood beside me and Gemini was announcing us as this years tributes. The boy had a stupid grin and was looking down at some people I assume where his friends. People went wild with applause. She put her hand on my back and started to lead us backstage. I then got a glimpse of Kate. She was looking sadly at me and then we had the same realization... I was screwed.
