"I have a song for you," Zach said as he picked up his guitar and strumming a few chords.
He brought me to the beach to have a picnic. The waves of the ocean barely touching our feet while we sit. It was the perfect scene, the same one in my head I had as a child.
"Then play it," I said, smiling.
"Okay, but you have to sing along,"
"What if I don't know the song?" I ask.
"Hazel, out of all songs, I'm pretty sure you've heard this one before," he said chuckling and then began to sing.
"Do you hear me? I'm talking to you. Across the water, across the deep blue ocean under the open sky oh my, baby I'm tryin'," he sang.
I smiled. I love this song.
"Boy, I hear you in my dreams. I feel your whisper across the sea. You keep me with me in my heart. You make it easier when life gets hard," I sang, swaying along.
"I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend. Lucky to have been where I have been. Lucky to be coming home again," we both sang, looking into each other's eyes.
He stopped playing and smiled at me.
"I told you, you would know it,"
"Yeah, but why'd you stop playing?"
He leaned closer to me. To kiss me. Would this finally be the first kiss I was waiting for? I started to lean in as well, but the waves splashed us with its cool, blue water. I shrieked and he laughed. He put his guitar down and picked me up, holding me like he was cradling a baby.
"Put me down!" I shrieked as he walked into the water.
"You already have your swimsuit on," he said smiling.
"Yeah, but I'm still wearing my dress over it!"
"You can wash it, no big deal," he said and dropped me into the water.
I shrieked again as I fell and came back up. He pointed at me and laughed.
"Zach!" I said, wiping my hair out of my face.
He just kept on laughing. I smiled and laughed along.
"Wait," he said, "Are you going to do something to me?"
I cocked my head to the side. He knew me so well.
"No, why would you think that?"
"Because you alwa-,"
I started splashing water at him and laughed.
"Hey! I'm going to get you!" he warned me and started coming towards me.
I shrieked and tried to run away from him but he got me from behind. He held me tightly.
"Got you," he whispered in my ear.
"Isn't that obvious?" I said giggling.
I turned around, still in his arms. He stared into my eyes and I felt nervous.
"Why are you staring at me?" I asked.
"Why can't I? I'm your boyfriend right?"
"Yeah, but you don't have to stare at m-"
He interrupted me by pulling me closer to him and kissing me. I stood there wide eyed and stunned, but then I closed my eyes. It was almost exactly how I dreamed it to be. I pulled away from him, smiling. He smiled back and we both watched the sunset go down. We picked up our belongings and walked down the beach to his house.
"So how was it?" he asked shyly.
"How was what?"
He gave me a look and I laughed.
"The date was amazing, but the kiss..."
His eyes grew wide, "What about the kiss?"
I smiled widely and gazed at him, "It was perfect,"
