Load in! Yay!
The cast of The Artist Players, Jesus Christ Superstar have finally made it to techweek.
I honestly was not sure if we would. The last three months have been rough. But hey, we finally know the music; the guys finally know how to properly act drunk; the sopranos (myself, Jessica Caro, included) finally figured out the top note when we hang the actor playing Jesus.
Whoo and whew!
Today's load in, so we bring all our stuff into the theater. Mainly, it's this awesome set that my dad and a few other guys built.
It's a huge wooden structure built and painted to look like scaffolding. We initially had all painted it 'battleship grey' a few weeks ago but for some reason that color was really purple. Don't ask me why; I don't know.
We just finished getting everything into the theater about an hour ago.
Our director, Kathy Joy, got so riled up because it started to snow a tad.
"It's snowing," I said when the director came in through the door to backstage.
"No, it's not," the director denied adamantly, shaking her head and ignoring the flakes.
"Uh, I can see it," I stated, pointing behind her, out the big lifting gate.
"Tip number one of theater: lie to the director about snow and everyone's happy," Kathy said, holding her hands up in an explanatory manner.
I can see the benefit of that. I just hope it doesn't continue. But, of course, this is the middle of North Carolina; it hasn't snowed here in about five years.
