Episode 2.2: Tryouts

Matteo POV 

I’m here at the gymnasium for the basketball tryout. 

'Jeez! Why are there so many students in here?!' I thought, only participants were allowed to go inside. My thoughts were interrupted when the head coach came.

“Hi guys! Good morning! Ready for the hunger games? Haha. Just kidding. Kindly pass all the application forms here before we start the try out. We’ll just wait for the team to arrive then we will start ok?”

After submitting all the application form, we were interviewed one by one.

“Ok guys, since there are lots of participants in this year’s tryout, I’ll divide you into several teams and will do a single match game. Each team will match one of the team’s here. We will do a different type of elimination game. Each game will have 2 quarters or a 20 minute game. We will select best players on each team and group them to the other selected players in other team. The selected players will be group and match up to the other team. The winning team would have a higher chance to be selected for the basketball team. For the failing team, we will still select best players on their team if they do an exceptional game. Then after that, we’ll pick who are the successful players that pass this year’s tryout. We will post the successful players at the bulletin board. So everyone, do your best! So as I call your name, go to your respective group”

After hearing my name, I proceed to my group. Not as expected, I’ve seen Alex on the bench. My eyes widened. She’s looking at me while eating her sandwich. When she sees that I’ve already seen her, she bows her head. 

‘Eh? Hiding?’ 

I can't help myself but smirked. She cute. She's trying to hide even though I already see her.

Game starts. First game, we won. Piece of cake! Joke! Ha-ha! Luckily, I am selected to proceed to the next game. I am grouped to the other selected players for a final round. After 40 minutes of hardcore ball action, I've managed to pass the tryout. 

‘Woooh! Who’s the man?! MATTEO! Wooot!’ 

When the coach announced that I've passed the tryout, I looked at Alex and winked. 

Haha! If you could just see her face. She's pissed off. Ha-ha!

I am walking towards her position when suddenly a red jersey guy talks to her. 

‘What the-! Who the hel* is that guy?!’ 

And looking at Alex she looks so shocked, but after that she beams a smile. 

‘AAARRGGHHHH! Why did she smile to that guy!?! He’s not even an inch in my awesomeness!!!’ 

To suppress my anger I just turn around and just head to the shower room instead.

After fixing my things, I immediately head home. 

‘Pssshh! Why does this girl can easily make my mood swings? At first I’m so happy that I passed the tryout, but after seeing her smiling with that guy… AAAAGGGHHH!!! I don’t want to think what happened next to that! Aish!’ 

As I stepped out from the car, I was shocked. I've seen Alex across the street. 

‘WOW. We’re neighbors.‘

I beamed a smile but I easily changed that when I remember what happened at the gym. She heads inside to their house, and so as me. I head to the kitchen to have some dinner. After eating, I grabbed some beer in the ref and go to my room. I picked up my guitar and go to the veranda. This is my pastime since I came here in the Philippines. Playing my guitar with a beer on the side.
