"Mom?" She turns toward me and my sister's, tears streaming down her face.
"Kyra, protect your sisters and your cousin. We will be with you in your dreams." She says as we all go to the capsules in the port under our house.
I walk over to Kara and hug her. "I love you, Kara Zor-El."
"I love you too, Kyra Zor-El." She walks away to her capsule, tears making a river down her face.
I walk to mine as mom hands me Kate, who is only 6. "Protect them both. If you get separated, know you will find them again. I love you, Kyra."
"I love you too, mom." Dad walks over to me and kisses our foreheads. "I love you, dad."
"I love you too, Kyra. Keep in mind that you will be able to do things that the humans will not. You will be able to reveal your true self later in your life. Be safe." We step into our capsule, Kate on my lap. Outside, I hear explosions. I start to cry as the capsule closes. The last thing I see of the planet Krypton is the fireball of our planet exploding. Last thing, I remember is a meteorite hitting our capsule, knocking us of course and into the phantom zone. We both become overcome with darkness.
I wake up from the stupid nightmare, sweating and tears streaming down my cheeks from my red puffy eyes. I hate that memory. I get out of my bed and walked over to my desk. I start to open my laptop until I hear Kate start to stir. I walk to , seeing her covered in sweat and tears too.
"Same nightmare?" She nods.
"Well I was 6 and we were stuck in the same place as Kara. But I hope she got out ok. You have it too, Kyra?" She is too mature for being 17.
"Yeah. Ready for a new start?" I ask, leaning in the doorway
"Totally. Besides, I heard something about a certain photographer getting a new job with the queen of Media. I wonder how this is going to turn out."
"Hopefully, not as bad as your flying." I say.
"Hey!" She starts to throw a pillow at my face, to cover my smirk (that's just what she said, not me.)
"Remember last time you did that, we almost burned the house down. Mom was not too happy." Her hand retracted and she got up and went to her closet, picking out a very .
"Well, I better get dressed so I'm not late to work. I don't want to get fired on first day by Mrs. Cat Grant." I walk to of our room and myself.
I walk in to the kitchen from our rooms. (Technically, we have the same room, we just split it with a curtain.) She comes out with her blond and red hair in a bun. I put my brown and blue hair in a ponytail. We both dyed our hair so I would not mixed up with my sister if she even survived to this planet and she wanted to, it's the thing for teenagers on this planet. I make eggs for breakfast with our cruddy stove. Lucky for us, we have heat vision so bye bye matches.
I serve up the eggs on to our plates and put out the ketchup. I eat my three plates of eggs and she sits down at the island, eating her daily five plates in her record time. 1:15:5. We have this thing where we time her eating.
"Kay, I need to go. No fights, no fires, and no showing off unless it is intellectual not flying. Love you, have fun at school!" I scream as I leave the apartment to hear her wash the dishes and turn on her music. I walk down to our car in the public garage.
As soon as I open my car and start it up, I drive down the busy roads to the Catco building. I hate traffic. I really wish I could just fly around so I didn't get stuck in traffic, but traffic is better than revealing our secret.
I finally get to the parking garage and park in a spot close to the sidewalk outside. I get out and walk to the building. Once inside, I take the elevator up to a huge place with many people sitting at their desks. I fix my glasses and make sure my hair is not in my way. I walk into Miss Grant's office.
"Miss Knight, you are late." She states, looking up at me with her signature stare.
"I'm sorry, maam. I was making sure my sister was ok. She had some trouble in school last year." She gets up and walks over to her couch and sits.
"Sorry about that. Now to business, I understand you take pictures for a living, correct?"
"Yes ma'am."
"And you're most recent was of Superman in Metropolis, where you used to live, correct?"
"Yes ma'am."
"Well then I will have Kara take you to your associate. You will be taking pictures for the newsletters and magazines we write, ok?" I nod. "Ok. Good. KARA!" Kara was already in the office, with Miss Grant's coffee and lunch in hand, putting it on the desk.
"Kara, take Kyra to where she will work with James." She says as Kara turns to me.
Oh my god. I'm looking at my sister. My flipping sister.
She doesn't recognize me. Good.
"Hi, I'm Kara Danvers. Nice to meet you." We shake hands and she walks out of Miss Grant's glass office. She takes me to a room with stuff to develop and print the picture. The man inside comes out and and introduces himself as James.
"Hi, my name's Kyra Knight. Nice to meet you." My sister became more like jello when he came out. Oooo, someone's got a crush! She turns to me, intrigued.
"I'm sorry, but you remind me of someone I used to know." Ok. I'll play this game until you knows.
"Yeah, you remind me of someone too. What do you mean by 'used to know'?"
"They died in a fire with my parents. It was my sisters. They both died. What about you?" I wanted to scream at her, "I'm here and alive" but I couldn't.
"They died in a fire too. I was 13 and it was my twin along with my parents." They both murmured sorry's and let me be. Kara left to her desk, suspicion in her eyes.
"So, do you know Superman? I heard you take pictures of him." I turn around to another person with suspicion, James.
"Sort of, he knows me when he's not superman. But he told me who he was before I left metropolis. And he told me I would see you here." I walked over to my desk in the office which just so happens to face the window. I look over to Kara, who is useing her advanced hearing. Seriously, Kara? Do you have nothing better to do?
He walks over to me and whispers in my ear, "Who are you?"
I lean into his ear and reply, "Ask him. He knows. He knows everything. He will tell you when I let him."
...
When I get home, I see a happy Kate looking at the tv and sitting on the couch about to explode with joy.
The tv had reported on an Angel who had saved a plane!
God damnit, Kara! You weren't supposed to reveal yourself yet! come on!
"Kyra! It's Kara! She's alive!" She turns around to look at me. I smile at her happiness to see her sister after eleven years of not seeing her.
"I know. I work with her. She's suspicious of us. But she'll find out soon." Kate (finally) calms down enough so she can make dinner. Steak and Mashed potatoes.
"Thanks, Kate. Hey, do you want to go to bed early so we wake up on time tomorrow?"
"Sure."
"Kay, night." I walk into my room and change into my pajamas. Once my head hits the pillow, I'm out cold. I soon drift into a dreamless sleep.
