Xienna

I reach the lake and see Chandler sitting by the edge on a rock, tracing something in the snow with a stick.  I smile a little to myself.

Part of me was thinking he wouldn't even show up.  Like yesterday never even happened.

I walk up behind him quietly so he wouldn't notice me.

Then I grab his shoulders and say "boo!"

The stick flies out of his hand and his head whips around.  I practically fall to the ground laughing.

"You scared the shit out of me."

"Yeah I can tell"  I say in between laughs.

After I calm down I sit down on the rock next to Chandler.

"Are you gonna tell me what happened to your eye?" he asks, changing his voice to a more serious tone.

I already forgot.  I reach my hand up to touch my still swollen eye.

"Why should I have to tell you?" I say to avoid answering his question.

All he does is look at me with a raised eyebrow.  His blue eyes are bright against his dark hair.

"I got in a fight" I say, looking away and playing with the zipper on my coat.

There is silence before he asks, "did you win?"

I laugh a little, shaking my head.

"Yeah."

Then there is more silence.

"You didn't get in a fight did you?"

My head shoots back up.  How could he have known.  I try not to show my fear.

"I may have just met you but I know that you are lying" he says.

I think about whether I will tell him or not and then I take a big sigh.  I don't know why I'm doing this.

"Well I um woke up late this morning."  I try to laugh like it was actually funny "and my dad came in my room.  He was mad and he kinda.." I trail off.

I try to keep smiling but I feel the corners of my mouth being pulled down and tears welling in my eyes.

Chandler just sits there looking at me, his lips slightly parted.  I don't say anything else because I know my voice will shake.  I press my lips tightly together in an attempt to stop myself from crying.

But then a single tear escapes my eye, rolling down my cheek.  It is too late now.  More and more tears come streaming down my cheeks.  There is no stopping it now.

I feel like I'm always apologizing for chapters being short but sorry this is short lol
