Noreen moved about in her new room unpacking her collection of horror movies and thriller books. Her room was black. Black as my soul, she thinks. It's late at night and she remembers that she's supposed to go to her new school in the morning.
"NOREEN YOU NEED TO GO TO SLEEP!" Her mother yells from down stairs.
"I KNOW THAT!" Noreen screams at her mother. She was sick of how annoying she was. Her mom didn't reply, she knew it would be a waste of time to try and change Noreen.
Noreen crawls into her bed and buries her face in her blankets and screams into her pillow. Eventually she calms down and falls asleep.
.......
The next day Noreen woke up to her mom shaking her awake. "Get outta bed." Noreen hated it when her mom tried to sound hip.
Noreen simply groaned and got up, walking to her bathroom. She took a shower and brushed her hair. She never really made much of an effort to get ready. She pulled out her favorite black skinny jeans and put on a Panic! At The Disco shirt. She grabbed her book bag and got in her mom's car.
.........
When she arrived at school she left the car and started walking, but suddenly ran into someone. It was an Asian girl with medium length brown hair.
Noreen's Point of View:
"CASSANDRA!" Another girl with blond curly hair, green eyes, glasses, and a tan skin tone stood behind her with her hands on her hips.
"I'm so, so sorry!" The girl I bumped into said, apologizing.
"Oh, it's all good. My name's Noreen." I say. She seemed nice and I really wanted to have at least one friend here. This is my eighth grade year and I really want to make the most of it before high school.
"I'm Cassandra, but you can call me Cassie, this is Ava." She says, gesturing to the blonde girl. Ava waves and smiles. "I haven't seen you around. Are you new here?" She asks me.
"Um, yeah. I moved here with my mom from New York City." I explain and she nods thoughtfully.
"I love NYC! I would kill to live there!" Cassie exclaims. "Anyway, what's your first period class?" She asks.
"English."
"Same! Ava and I can show you around." She says, peering over at my schedule. "It looks like we have the same schedule."
The three of us walk through the halls. So far so good, I think. We turn the corner and a tall figure knocks straight into me. I fall flat on the floor and the man lands in push-up position centimeters away from my face.
He stands up, "My apologies, young lady." He says. Immediately when I looked at him he seemed creepy. It was just something about the way he looked at me.
He holds out a hand for me and instead of taking it I sit up by myself. Cassie and Ava pull me away into the English classroom quickly.
"That was Mr. Thredson, the Social Studies teacher. He's a total creep." Ava says.
The bell rings and the class settles down. As the teacher walks in. She's a blonde woman and is either pregnant, or really fat.
......
My first few classes fly by and it's finally lunch. Cassie and Ava help me navigate to the cafeteria.
Once we get our food we sit down at a table with a few other girls and a couple boys.
"Hey guys, this is Noreen, she's new but she's totally cool." Cassie says. "Noreen, this is Audrey and Nathan," she says pointing to a girl with brown hair and a boy with brownish-blond hair. "This is Colleen and Josh, she says pointing to a blond girl and an odd looking pale boy. "Also this is Jenna, Gabby, and Hennessy." She gestures to three girls with brownish-blonde hair.
"This is Ana," (a pretty blonde girl) "Hanna," (a Ginger) "And this is Trevor and his friend Tyler." Ava gestures to a brown haired boy and a blonde hair boy with pink hair. "They don't really sit here that much."
"Hey." I say, observing them all as they observed me. I have brown hair, freckles, and green eyes.
The rest of lunch we all talked about random things and I felt very comfortable talking to all of them, they were....nice.
......
My next class is with Mr. Thredson. Great, this is gonna be awkward. I think to myself.
I walk into the room and sit down next to Audrey, Ana, Ava, Hanna, and Cassie. We had the same classes but I only really got to talk to Ava and Cassie in my other classes.
Mr. Thredson walks into the room and starts talking. "As most of you probably already know, we have a new student today." He says. "Noreen, can you come up here and tell the class a little bit about yourself?" I silently stand an walk over to the front of the room where he's standing and he stand behind me with his hands on my shoulders. I wonder if he always does this with students.
"Um, well my name is Noreen and I love horror movies, Panic! At The Disco, Pugs, and I play the Saxophone really well." I tell the class.
"Interesting......I heard that you previously lived in NYC. That's cool." He says in a creepy tone. At this point he's massaging my shoulders. I shiver and hope he'll stop soon because I feel very uncomfortable.
I pull out of his grasp and sit down at my desk. My new friends look worried for me and my current state of mind.
Thredson clears his throat, "Anyways we're starting a new unit on World War II." I ignore his meaningless babbling and think about what he did earlier, but luckily this was the last class of the day.
The bell rings and I stand up packing up my things.
"Hey Noreen, can you stay back for a few minutes? I need to talk to you." He says before I was about to leave.
When everyone is gone he stands up and walks to the door, closing it. Shit.
