Amanda's POV
I'll admit, drama wasn't at the top of my list for extra classes. In fact, it wasn't even in sight anywhere on my paper. What I was planning on joining was the Girls Club. It may sound lame to you, but it's actually a lot more fun than you'd expect! You get to host all sorts of fundraisers to help support the school, like bake sales, car washes, art class thingies, etc. My favorite part of it is that near every big holiday, we host a little friendly competition to see who can decorate their classroom door to fit the holiday theme best! We get to go around the school after everyone leaves and carry around fancy little clipboards with pens and papers to take notes on as we judge everyone's doors! It's so much fun! I even planned on using 5 different colored pens for 5 different types of notes! Key word: planned.
Turns out, with just my luck, I was sick the day we chose our classes. So the next day while everyone else got to go to their favorite classes, I was stuck in the office choosing a club that was still available. Of course my best friend Jenifer made it into Girls Club. She said that she even tried to write my name on the lost as well, but the teacher caught her. I was happy that she tried to help, but she'd be even more helpful if she had decided to switch to join drama with me. But she didn't say anything about switching.
So one day during lunch, we were both eating our sandwiches when I decided to say something.
"Hey, Jen? Can I ask you something?" I had said.
"Sure! What's up? Is it about how the school lunches sneakily changed the brand of bacon for their BLT's? Then yeah, I noticed that too. Talk about not cool!" She said back.
"No, it's about the clubs, although I did notice that too. What were they thinking?" I said.
"Budget cuts. That's what. Anyway, go on" she said.
"Well ya know how I'm in the drama club since Girls Club was full, right?" I asked.
"Yeah. That must suck" she said.
"It does. Which is why I want to ask you if you want to transfer into drama with me so that I'm not all alone!" I said. She just tilted her head the way she normally does when she's confused.
"Transfer from Girls Club? Sorry Mandy, but that ain't happening! You know how much I love judging the doors!" She said.
"But I love judging them too, but I can't. Wouldn't it only be fair for you to do drama with me so that neither of us get to judge?" I asked.
"No, it's already fair. You were sick so you missed out on your chance, Mandy. Rules are rules" she said.
"That's not fair! I couldn't help being sick!" I said back.
"Well maybe if you hadn't eaten that chocolate pudding for lunch the day before, you wouldn't have gotten sick!" Jen said getting angry.
"I didn't know that would make me sick, and it probably didn't. It was just a coincidence!" I said getting angry as well.
"Forget the pudding. If you really wanted to join the club, you would've made sure to be in school that day" she said standing up.
"So it's my fault that I didn't want to get anyone else sick?! What kind of accuse is that?!" I said standing up next to her.
"The kind that's true. Look, Mandy. The bottom line is that I'm not switching to do stupid drama. That your own problem, not mine" she said crossing her arms.
"And I know that, I'm trying to fix it! But your too stubborn and selfish to realize that a real friend would've switched" I said crossing my arms also.
"But a real friend would understand that her friend just wants to have fun" she said as she picked up her lunch and moved to a different table, the farthest one from me.
