Wearing my elegant silk black gown that hugs my proportion and reaches my ankle, with a slit as up to my upper right thigh, designed and customized by a well-known designer, partnered with my 6 inches high heels from a high end brand, I held my chin up high, walk with my hips swaying, brightened my smile and made the judges and the audience proud of me like what my mentor always told me to do so.
"contestant number four, Ms. Georgina Divina Gracia from the Department of Business Administration!" I gracefully walked near the microphone at the center of the stage. I can hear the loud cheer of the students from my department while waving numerous banners with my name and photo.
"Out of all the contestants, it is undeniable that you have the loudest and most supportive friends. How do you feel about it?" Mr. Trujillo, the emcee, asked me which made the business ad students growl louder. He put the microphone near my mouth and waited for my answer.
I smiled genuinely before answering, "I owe them my comfort and confidence up here on stage, I feel very much grateful. Hearing them makes me more eager to win the crown." with that, I stand tall and put one of my hands on my waist. Once more, I heard my friends cheering.
"Good luck on winning the crown then, Miss Georgina." He then looked at his right to get the fish bowl from an organizer, "okay then, pick a judge." I inserted my hand on the bowl and let it roam around before finally picking a paper, I gave it to the emcee without opening it and not losing my smile showcasing my set of teeth.
"You picked our dearest Don, Don Gracian Veneracion, Don address your question to Miss Georgina." aniya.
"Good day, miss Georgina. First of all, congratulations for being one of the top four. Now here's the situation. Right now, there is a protest going on right outside here calling that pageants are disrespectful of women. Convince them that they're wrong." he then repeated it before letting me answer.
The question somehow made me feel uneasy. Personally, I somehow agree on the protest. No woman is in need of validation to be treated the sexiest, most beautiful, and most intelligent.
Yet the question told me to prove them wrong. In order to win and not let my pride be stepped on, I will have to mention the pros of having pageants like this.
It is very unusual for someone like me to join pageants but I'd like to take the extra credit and fun. I don't really intend to win this thing but losing would definitely hurt my pride so might as well, excel.
"Thank you for that question, Don. Pageants like this gives us, young women, a platform to foray in the fields we want and forge ahead, be it entrepreneurship, be it armed force, be it politics. It gives us platform to voice our choices and opinions, and makes us strong, independent that we are today. For instance, the promotion of my advocacy which is to support children's well being which revolves around helping underprivileged and less fortunate children. I want to be both an inspiration and encouragement so they can dream for a better future. That would be all, thank you." I flashed by genuine smile as I answer confidently, after that my mates in the department cheered for me.
