Tyler

Ugh. School. My first day of school. I was home-schooled all my life, and I was finally starting high school at a REAL school. I read about it in books, I saw it in the movies, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I sighed, turned off my alarm, and got slowly ready for school.

My mom offered to drive me to school on my first day. I had butterflies in my stomach, and I figured walking wouldn't have helped me much, so I accepted her offer.

As we were driving to school, I noticed my neighbor was walking to school. I talked to him maybe once since we moved to my new house about a year ago. What was his name again? John? James? Whatever it was, I tried to stay away from him as much as possible. His Fro-hawk kindof weirded me out.

After about 5 minutes, we pulled up to a building with a lot of kids my age walking in.

"Well, here we are," my mother said, "This is your new school."

Despite all my worries about going into a school for the first time in my life, I grabbed my backpack and walked into my new school.

It was exactly like I pictured it would be. Kids getting in fights, couples making out in the hallways, kids smoking in the bathroom.

God, I'm not gonna make any friends, I thought.

"Hey," said a voice behind me. I turned around. Behind me was standing this kid. He seemed to be about my age, but the little fuzz he had growing under his chin made him look a little older than that.

"Hey," I replied.

"You new here?" he asked.

"Yeah, it's my first day here at a normal school. I've been homeschooled all my life," I said.

He laughed. "How do you like it so far?"

"Eh, it's alright I guess."

"Need any help finding your first hour?" he asked.

"Yeah, that would actually help alot," I replied.

We walked to my class, and it turns out me and him had some stuff in common. We both had an interest in music. I play the piano, he played the drums. I was feeling relieved, because I had finally found a friend.

Suddenly, he stopped walking.

"Well, here's room 209, you're first hour," he said, pointing to the door.

"Thanks for the help," I said, "I'm Tyler, by the way. Tyler Joseph."

"Yeah no problem. And I'm Chris," he said. "Chris Salih."
