Chapter 4

Debby is a pretty cool girl. I sat with her in chemistry and got to know her better. Even though I didn't really say anything to her, it was nice to know that someone was actually talking to me for once.

After school, she asked me if I wanted to come over to her place and have dinner. I accepted her invitation, and walked to her house with her after school.

We went inside, and I met Debby's parents. They seemed pretty nice, but they kept looking at me weird for some reason. They had that same kind of look my parents did whenever my sister brought a boy home. I've never actually been to a girl's house, so this is new to me.

We went downstairs, and turned on the t.v., and watched re-runs of Friends. In the middle of the episode, I noticed that there was a keyboard in the corner of the room.

"Do you play?" I asked, pointing to the keyboard.

"I do a little bit, but I haven't as much lately," Debby replied, "What about you?"

"I don't play piano, but I've been playing drums since I was 8," I said.

She stood up. "C'mon," she said, "There's a drum kit upstairs. I want to hear you play."

"I don't think I should," I said.

"Oh c'mon, you can't be that bad," she said.

"But... I've never actually played in front of people before," I confessed.

She smiled. "Just pretend I'm not there."

We went upstairs, and there was a drumset, just sitting there. I went up to it, sat down, grabbed the drumsticks, and started playing.

When I was finished, I expected to see Debby laughing at me. Instead, I saw a look of awe in her eyes.

"Wow... Just wow," she said, "You're like, REALLY good.

"Haha, thanks," I said. I stood up from the chair, and Debby did something that caught me completely off guard.

She kissed me.

Not on the forehead or the cheek, like my mom usually does. But directly on the lips. I didn't know what to do, for this is the first time a girl's ever kissed me. So I backed away from her.

"Uh... I... Uh," I stuttered, "I have to go now." Then I ran out of her room and out of her house, and ran the rest of the way home.
