Last night seemed like a dream when I woke up the next day. A crazy, surreal, weird dream. Lazily rolling over, I checked my alarm clock. 7 am, ugh. As always, I grabbed my Iphone from its charger and checked my messages.
'Hey, sorry about last night. We good bitchie?'
Seems like Eva wasn't taking last night too seriously, that's a Relief. The last thing I need is to have a thousand enemies and a reserved seat at the loners table for lunch.
'Hey, you. Hope you don't mind me texting you so early. I was wondering if you'd like to hang out soon? Just text me whenever you're up to it'
I couldn't help but smile at the text. Usif is truly a gentlemen. I quickly texted him back:
It's a date! I mean, plan of course ;)
After laying in my bed for a few more minutes, I made my way to my closet. Let's see, what shall I wear that won't clash with Eva's outfit? I roll my eyes at the thought of her jealous thoughts.
Being her "sidekick" meant looking good enough to be seen with her, but not better than her. I decided on a pair of denim skinny jeans, a black turtleneck crop, and simple jewelry to compliment the outfit.
I braided my hair messily to the back and added some light makeup, lip gloss and mascara. A little is a lot. After sliding on my black flats, I was out the door, where my mom was impatiently smoking a cigarette on my porch."I thought I said 10 o'clock sharp, Jessaline."
Jesus fucking Christ.
"I'm sorry mom, time got away from me." I sighed, not bothering to look her way.
"Oh yeah, sure. One minute you're sober and the next you're wasted and telling everybody your secret! You need to obey me as long as you live in this damn house, got it?"
"For one, I don't drink. And two, I wasn't even with Eva at the party. I left with one of my friends. Thirdly, I'm not gonna be under your roof much longer. Now if you'd excuse me, I have to get to school."
I swung my purse over my shoulder and pushed past my mom, who only rose to my chin. Before I could start downstairs, she sharply grabbed my wrist. I turned around to look her in her piercing blue eyes. "I'm only trying to protect you, Jess.""Then tell me mom, why do we constantly move from place to place? Who or what are we running from?"
My mom avoided my eyes as she stuttered over her words. "I-i can't tell you yet."
"That's what I thought." I spat, walking past her and into my car.
"Jess, wait!" She called after me, but it was too late. I was gone.*
"So for my birthday party, I'm thinking about a small get together, maybe a bonfire?""Sure, that sounds cool." Eva gives me a look of disgust. ".. But why small when you could have big?" I corrected, in which she smiled.
"I don't know Jess, I just want my 19th birthday to be something really special."
How cool would it be if she threw me a surprise party?"Don't worry aves, Your birthday is gonna be awesome." I forced a tight smile. Surprise party it is.
After grabbing my books from my locker and closing it, we go our separate ways. Great, now I have to plan a surprise party for the girl. A location, invitations, decoration, food, all in two weeks with zero money.
I paused when I heard the bell rang, and wondered if I should even bother running to class. I decided not to, and instead checked for security guards before walking out the door. Once I reached my car, I dialed Usif's number.
The phone rang three times before he picked up."Hey there, ms. Sadness."
I rolled my eyes at his sarcasm. "Don't call me that, it was one time."
