"Hey, Kath do you want to hang out?" I ask over the phone."Sure if I don't leave now I might kill someone." She says before yelling at her brother.
"Okay, I wanted to get away too. Do you want to go to the house?" I ask.
"Sure! I'll see you in a few." She says hanging up.
The house is a place where Kathleen and I like to go when we don't want to be around our families. We live in a nice area with two-story houses. Kath lives just down the street so the house is an easy, convenient place to go. It also happens to be my dead next-door neighbor's house. She had moved into a nursing home but her family was doing some renovations to the house. When she died, her family decided they didn't want to put any more work into the house and abandoned it. The town was supposed to tear it down but I doubt they will. They have been avoiding it for ten years.
I tell my mom I'm heading out and leave out the front door. I check to make sure she is not looking and I sneak around back. Towards the back of the yard, there is a big oak tree in between the two property lines so the fence ends before it. Over the years we would slip through the crack but we got bigger and we couldn't fit anymore. Luckily there are two branches on either side of the tree so it's easy to get to the other side. Most of the time Kathleen comes through this way as well but when she's feeling dangerous she just walks in through the front.
They never finished refurbishing the inside of the house so all of the walls are open and the staircase that led upstairs was taken out. There was a tiny narrower staircase behind a door in the kitchen but they had left that because most people don't know about it. When our neighbor lived here, she always kept it locked so most people thought it was a decoration.
Upstairs Kath and I had taken over a room that overlooked the front yard. It was a little smaller than my own bedroom but it was still pretty big. Upstairs most of the walls had been left alone but this room was the only one with them all still intact. Kath and I had hung up three posters and had multiple pictures of ourselves and our friends. We also had a bag with a sweatshirt for each of us, a portable speaker, portable chargers, paper and pens, flashlights, and several other things. We had two bean bag chairs that I had gotten from my grandfather for my birthday.
I took my phone out of my pocket and connected it to the speaker when I saw something black dart across the front lawn. I heard the door close and feet on the stairs. Kath walked into the room dressed in her normal dark skinny jeans and her black T-shirt with her red flannel wrapped around her waist. Her blonde hair was let down past her shoulders. She had her first and second holes pierced and a tattoo on her thigh that her mother doesn't and probably will never know about. She is a skyscraper at 5'11 compared to me who is only 5'7. I'm a bit different than Kath. I normally wear black, ripped skinny jeans with black converse and a band tee. While her hair is long and straight, my hair is dark brown and touches the back of my neck when it is in its usual ponytail. I have my first holes and second along with a lip ring on the right side of my mouth. I want to get an eyebrow piercing next. I have a tattoo around my wrist that my mother let me get in place of a bracelet that I wore for three years only taking it off to take a shower. She wanted it gone so badly that she did not care it I got a tattoo.
"Hey Quinn," Kath says as she enters the room joining me on the opposite bean bag as I turn on some music.
"Hey, so what shall it be today? The 1975, Mayday Parade or 5 Seconds of Summer?" I ask feeling in the mood for all three.
"Shuffle play it all bitch." She says lounging back and singing along to 5 Seconds of Summer's new song She's Kinda Hot.
We were in the second chorus when we heard car doors slamming and lots of yelling and laughter. We both got up and looked out the window and saw people walking up towards the house.
"Shit! Quinn turn the music off!" Kath says frantically as I run over and turn off the speaker and my phone.
People by the vans began unloading cameras and sound equipment while others began setting up tables.
Kath started gathering our stuff when we heard the front door open.
"Shit!" I whispered as I quickly and silently ran downstairs to close and lock the kitchen door.
I headed back upstairs quietly to Kath.
"What the hell is going on?" She whispered as I crept into the room.
"I have no idea," I reply, just as confused as she is.
We silently crept to where the old staircase had been. We peaked our heads around the corner and saw five guys standing on the first floor. One of them was telling the other four that they wouldn't be using most of the inside just the kitchen and garage. He told them something about filming starting in an hour. Then the guy left leaving the other four by themselves. They started talking and you could tell they had Australian accents. The tall blonde one turned to the side and I caught a glimpse of his face. Kathleen must have too because she let out a gasp. I saw them begin to turn their heads and yanked her back. The four guys standing on the bottom level of the house was none other than one of our favorite bands, 5 Seconds of Summer.
