"You've got an ulterior motive, haven't you?"

Carmel's eyes widened in shock before she quickly masked her reaction, sealing off her momentary leakage of emotion. "Wh-what?" she stuttered slightly. "No, of course not!"

"I knew it! I knew it!" cried Anna, victorious. "Where are they?" she asked, crazily looking around the hallway. "Where are they, huh?"

Carmel blinked, dumbfound. " Where is what?"

"I bet they're in the lockers," Anna mumbled under her breath, peering into one of the blue lockers that lined the hallway. " It's the most inconspicuous place to hide them in, right?"

"Hide them? Anna, what are you talking about?" asked Carmel, eyebrows scrunched in utter bewilderment as she watched her friend peruse the hallway, peeking into random lockers.

"What am I talking about?" Anna replied in disbelief as she swirled around to face Carmel. Anna narrowed her eyes at Carmel as she stalked towards the latter in an almost predator-like fashion. Carmel backed up, taken aback by her best friend's sudden change of attitude.

Anna took an menacing step forward as she let out a slightly malicious chuckle. " I think you know exactly what I'm talking about Carmel Sullivan."

" Well, can you tell me what I'm talking about? 'Cause I'm pretty much in the dark here," Carmel deadpanned, giving her a bland look.

Anna huffed and narrowed her eyes sceptically at her best friend. Spinning on her feet, she resumed her task of scanning the hallways for whatever the hell it was she was looking for, muttering god knows what under her breath as she went.

"Tell her what she's talking about-hah! Probably a ruse to trick me again," grumbled Anna as she peered behind a large flower pot. " Cooking up some devious plan to get me to shit myself again, well no siree, I ain't falling for her bullshit anymore-"

Carmel furrowed her eyebrows in blatant confusion as she trailed after her lunatic friend. "Anna, what the hell are you-"

"HELLOOOOOO!!! MR MTV GUY!! ASHLYN CATCHER OR WHATEVER THE HELL YOUR NAME IS!! Where are you?!" Anna sang (horribly since she had the voice of a crow with tonsillitis) in a sing song, before skipping down the hallway merrily.

Carmel slapped a hand to her forehead. Grumbling at the sheer idiocy of her best friend, she hitched her backpack higher up her shoulder and took off after Anna for damage control.

"I'm being Punkd aren't I?" Anna's shrill soprano reverberated through the empty school halls, " which is sorta ironic cause I thought you guys got cancelled and all, but is still pretty cool and stuff, but its okay, come out where ever you are!!"

Carmel quickly snatched up Anna's hand which she (surprisingly) didn't pull away, and anchored Anna before she could float away once more. Right before Anna opened her mouth to let loose another screech (and the rest of her dignity), Carmel slapped a hand over her mouth, effectively silencing her loco friend.

Fixing her gray eyes on her bestie, Carmel cocked an eyebrow at Anna. "Anna, shut up," she ordered. " You're embarrassing yourself, which means that you're inadvertently embarrassing me."

Anna rolled her eyes and folded her arms across her chest. "I don't get it," she mumbled, squinting her eyes at Carmel, though her muffled voice came out as "Aumgerum."

"What now?" Carmel cocked her head slightly in question.

Ripping off her friends hand from her face, Anna replied, " I said, I don't get it. You're never this ecstatic for school. What's going on."

Carmel's green eyes glittered with mischief as a sneaky grin crept on to her face. "Just you wait and see," she giggled excitedly. "Now, stop shouting at the lockers and come on! We're going to miss them!"

"Miss who?" Anna asked, bewildered as Carmel dragged her through the throng of teenage bodies in the school hallway. As they finally came to a stop in front of the glass doors of the administrative building, Carmel looked over her shoulder.

"It's the first day of the school year," she said with a wink. "Fresh meat has arrived."
