[Zayn]

There he was, sitting on a stupid couch in a stupid waiting room with his stupid stepbrother Niall to wait for his dad's stupid meeting to be done with. It wasn't actually his thing to come along with his dad on a business meeting, but then again his father had offered to actually spend the day with him afterwards, so of course Zayn had to say yes.

At the moment he was just sitting around, tapping his phone (even though he wasn't actually doing anything,) and stopping the tapping just to look through the window to see if there was any magical change in scenery, to see if he was still in his bed, simply dreaming. Zayn didn't like talking to Niall, he thought he was a fucktard. Niall wasn't the brightest of light bulbs, but for some reason people saw him as the more likable stepbrother.

Niall spoke up. "Do you want to grab some food or something, Zayn? I think I saw a lit-"

"Don't you have some little puppies to kiss or something? If you want food, you can go alone," Zayn muttered. "I don't even know why you're here."

The blonde stepbrother ignored his reply and chose to go out on his own. "I'll just bring you back a pizza or something."

Zayn sighed and decided to play music and block out the rest of the world. Music was the one of the very few things that he was open about, the rest of him was quite closed off. Plugging in his earphones always gave him a feeling of serenity. There was never a time wherein music failed to put him at ease.

Maybe it was just him, but he thought that music was like a person to him. It spoke to him, it made him feel all these different emotions, it was just so human to him. Sometimes he would even wish that music could just turn into the perfect girl so that it'd become legal for him to marry it. That was how passionate Zayn was about music. He just loved how each note played together to form something so powerful and meaningful, it felt like a phenomena.

Just as Zayn chose a song to play, he noticed the door to the waiting room open, revealing a girl looking as annoyed and bored as he was. Not that he felt like she would be any better company than Niall, he just thought it was funny because her facial expression perfectly mirrored his.

"Let me guess," the girl spoke when she laid eyes on him. "You were persuaded to sit in this stupid waiting room while your parent attends the meeting, and they promised that they would hang with you afterwards."

Zayn raised a brow at how accurate she was, making him realize that he wasn't the only one getting victimized into situations like these. "Exactly like that. You too, huh?"

"Pretty much. I'm Joey, by the way," she extended a hand, which Zayn nonchalantly shook. "Oh, and I apologize in advance if something bad happens to you later, you seem like a pretty nice guy though."

"Okay.." Zayn said, not questioning the confusing statement as to avoid any conversation that he would reluctantly be a part of. "The name's Zayn."

"I guess we just have to do what people do in waiting rooms and wait for our parents to get this dumb meeting over with," Joey groaned and took a seat on the couch directly facing one of the walls of the building, which were pretty much made of glass panels meaning they acted as gigantic windows.

Zayn watched Joey's actions as if he had nothing better to do, which was actually true at the time. Tunes played through his earphones as he immediately saw why she had chosen to sit right in front of the windows. Joey brought out what he made out to be a sketchpad from her bag, as well as four pencils. Probably some charcoal s.hit, he thought.

Most people would carry on, watching as she put lines together on paper to make a harmonious sketch, but things were different for Zayn. He immediately lost interest in looking at her current actions. It didn't matter why, he just didn't like artists.

The boy returned to doing whatever he wanted to do on his phone, not caring to look back at Joey and placing himself in his own little bubble. There wasn't much he was looking forward to anymore. He wasn't so thrilled about the idea of finally getting some time with his dad, he wasn't so thrilled about being outside of his house which felt suffocating, and he definitely wasn't thrilled at all about Niall coming back up with some food to eat, which he had probably finished on the way back to the room.

"Zayn?" a chirpy voice sounded. Speaking of the devil, Zayn thought.

He unwillingly removed one earbud, as there was some stupid rule established ever since Zayn's father married Niall's mother which was about no ignorance. Zayn followed the rule to make his father happy, so he never ignored Niall. Although there was a rule of no ignorance, that didn't mean that he couldn't be mad or rude to Niall.

"I'm sensing that you've already eaten all the food you were supposedly going to eat in here," the black-haired stepbrother raised an eyebrow.

"Sorry," Niall scratched his nape. "I kinda just get all hungry and I can't really control myself and- wait. Is there a girl in here or am I seeing things?"

Zayn rolled his eyes as he noticed they had caught the attention of the girl. Joey had put down her drawing tools and began making her way to the stepbrothers, which made Zayn immediately put back his other earphone, pretending couldn't hear anything and he did not just see her stand up and walk.

"Yes there is a girl, and this girl can hear when she is being talked about, you know," Joey spoke.

Niall flushed with embarrassment. "Oops. Sorry about that. Nice to meet you, I'm Niall. Pretty sure you've met my stepbrother, Zayn."

"Nice to meet you too, I'm Joey," she smiled. "Now if you just excuse me, I was sorta in the middle of something."

"Oh, no problem." Niall shifted his gaze to where she was previously seated and spotted her things. "Can I see what you're doing?"

Joey allowed Niall to see and the two made off to a great start, leaving Zayn alone in the other side of the room completely bored and useless. He watched as they talked and laughed together, seeing how disgustingly jolly they were. It wasn't something that he minded really, he thought that they were good company for each other. Niall, a person who he disliked whose abilities (like eating nonstop without getting full) he did like, and Joey, a person who he didn't really dislike, but her hobby and the abilities she probably had were what he didn't quite like.

Zayn's thoughts were beginning to run in circles when the door to the waiting room finally opened, revealing business people, including the parents of the three in the room. The others made their way out of the building as Mr. Malik and his friend approached their kids.

"So, boys, have you met Joey?" Mr. Malik immediately asked, obviously attempting at playing matchmaker.

"Yeah," the two answered.

"She's a nice girl," Niall added.

From where Zayn was standing, he could see Joey talking to her father from across the room, having a seemingly pleasant conversation, smiles and all. He slightly wished that it was like that for him and his father. Niall appeared to be the one having a nice conversation with his stepfather, blabbing about what he and Joey had talked about, which pissed Zayn off.

"I see, I think you had plenty of fun with her," Zayn's father replied to Niall's story.

Zayn rolled his eyes. "Apparently, she's an artist."
