They waited patiently outside her door waiting for her to come out. The air was thick with the heavy feelings of regret and sadness.
Her father had died in a fight with a group of Templar. He had been cornered. There was nothing the others could do, for they had even been told by Him to run and run without looking back. They ran like cowards. Only two had decided to stay with their leader and they had been captured and also presumed dead.
Malik and Kadar sat on the floor, their backs against the door. Faheem had retaken his place in the chair after Tani went back to her quarters. The two could hear her quiet sobs through the thick wood of the door and the guilt churned inside. They would never tell her that they were supposed to go on that mission. They would never say that they parted with the main group before the action happened. They would never say anything to her. That was a promise that they inferred to each other.
There was a sound in the hallway where the oppening of the underground Jerusalem Street Bureau. Faheem looked up from his trance to see the young Altair Ibn La Ahad enter the room. "What has happened?" He seemed confused as to why the two Al-sayf twins were propped up against the woman's door. Faheem looked wary as he explained himself; his younger son couldn't hold back another flood of tears. Malik elbowed him gently, "Stop crying, You are not a child. You need to pull yourself together." Kadar nodded and leaned affectionately against his brother, embracing him. It was terrible for someone young like Kadar going through this. Malik would never understand the full cruelty of the world.
Malik and Kadar stood from the door to join their father and Altair. Altair looked over the two curiously, seeing that they had both suffered through the loss of Tani's father. He knew that the man had been like a second father to the two boys. It was obvious that even Malik, though he tried to look like the big tough guy, had been crying as well. If Malik could get easily upset by something like this, Altair could only imagine how she was feelng about it. Which made him wonder...
He looked around Kadar to see that the door had cracked a little. "Tani," He had heard himself whisper in a broken gasp; as if he hadn't used his voice in days. "Altair." she addressed him calmly and simply stared into his grey eyes. "Are you feeling well?" she tried to smile, but instead stifled another sob and wiped her face. "Yes, I am fine. I will say this to the two of you as well, my brothers..." She took a few steps and turned her gaze to the floor as if she were in some trance. It frightened them, truly it did. They had already lost one good man and they didn't want to lose her too. She was a part of their life, so they would not be giving her up that easily.
She looked to the exit then back to Altair, then to Malik, to Kadar, to Faheem, and then to the exit again. She felt her mind doing back flips and her heart tearing to shreds. The pain inside of her made her so sick that the thought of food made her want to vomit. She did not want to look at their pitying faces and yet, felt the need to go to them for comfort. She wanted nothing to do with Faheem, for every-time she looked at him, she remembered her father laughing at his senseless jokes and stories. She looked at Altair and felt the pain that everyone had felt at the loss of his father, Umar and that reminded her yet again of her own loss. She wanted so desperately to be alone, but she feared that if she was, she would probably suffer.
Malik and Kadar woke up that night to the sound of terrified screams. It didn't suprise Malik, for he had heard these screams every night he had stayed in the Bureau with her. She would sleep soundly, troubled, but soundly. Then, she would scream. She would scream so loud, so impained, that it would even make a master Assassin tremble at the mere thought of what she could be imagining. Malik simply woke her up, though she wasn't awake, and let her go back to sleep. After that, she would not make a sound. Just because Malik wansn't that bothered, didn't mean that Kadar wasn't. Kadar on the other hand, was terrified. He would grab Maliks arm in concern, look to him with those worried eyes, then let go, to let Malik go stop the petrifying wails.
It was almost as if she were falling apart. Malik didn't really know what to do anymore. She was just distant and numb. He had to do something before she completely waisted away.
Before she fell through the cracks
