"A fire of unknown origin took my baby away" You sang, your hands on the steering wheel of your 69 Shelby Mustang as you drove through the empty roads of Nevada.

It was a little bit late - around 10 pm, but you didn't mind one bit - you loved driving during the night, with its mysterious shadows and the moon, hiding behind soft cotton clouds.

As you continued humming to the song, your thoughts drifted to your boyfriend - as many couples, you two had started off as friends, then became lovers. Things had been nice at the beginning but somewhere along the way things had stopped working out. Andrew was a nice guy, he really was - he tried to treat you well. He was just too proud to admit your relationship was a mistake.

"A real coward. Until the very damn end." You thought bitterly. This whole thing was so complicated you sometimes wished you were able to just go and cheat on him so you could break this venomous cycle which was exhausting both of you.

But the guy was still your friend - a very good one, actually - and you just couldn't bring yourself to hurt him more than you already knew you were.

A strange noise apart from the soft purring of the engine brought you back to reality. Smoke erupted from under the hood and you had to stop the car immediately.

You lifted the hood and tried to check what's wrong but the smoke was just too thick to see anything through. Coughing and cursing, you stepped aside, wondering what the hell were you going to do now.

I mean, you were in the middle of US 95 (which was approximately 1040 km long, by the way) at 10 pm with nothing aside the lifeless desert surrounding you.

"Wait a minute" An idea popped in your mind "Andrew said he'd be staying in a motel near this road. I could call him to see if he'd be any help."

Quickly checking your GPS to see exactly where you were, you were happy to discover that the motel was actually only 64 km away.

Your boyfriend picked up the phone almost immediately. "What's up?" He tried to sound cheerful, but you could clearly sense the dread in his voice.

"Um, Andrew, hey, look, sorry it's so sudden and all, but I'm in the middle of US 95 right now and my car kinda broke??" You were trying to sound confident, but your facade quickly broke."And I was sort of wondering if you could, you know, pick me up?? It's like 60 km from where you're staying so..." You trailed off, unsure of how he'd react.

A deep sigh was heard from the other side.
"Look, (y/n), I've been thinking a lot and... I was going to you know, talk to you when you've made it to the motel but I guess it won't happen..."

Your throat went dry. "Andrew, are you...??"

"Yes I am and I'm so so sorry, you know I love you, I really do, just not like... that. And I know you're not happy in this relationship, I see it and neither am I. Just decided to make things easier for both of us and break it off... I'm sorry, (y/n), I really am. I just think we're both better off this way. Please don't call me anymore, don't text me, just leave me alone, please?? I'm sorry."

You felt dizzy. Your knuckles had gone white from the way you were clinging to your phone.

You weren't even upset. You saw it coming, after all. Heck, he said it - it would be easier for both of us.

You knew he was right.

It didn't make it hurt any less though - he was still your friend, or at least that's what you'd thought.

"Turns out I wasn't anything to him at all." You thought, sadness turning to anger now.

You tried calling again, but it just said his phone was off.

"Fucking bastard" You cursed furiously "I don't want your fucking love, I just want you to come get me dammit."

At this moment the universe decided to be a complete and utter bitch and your phone gave one last beep, signaling its low battery before completely dying.

"YOU FUCKING SON OF A BITCH FUCKING SHITTY BALLS FUCKITY FUCK FUCK-"

"You okay there??" A deep voice from behind you mused, startling you and snapping you out of your furious swearing marathon.

Too engulfed in your own anger, you hadn't noticed when another car (a 67 Chevy Impala your brain whispered to you, making you note the other person's obvious good taste) had stopped near yours, a tall handsome guy with strong, broad shoulders and a killer smile stepping out of it.

The latter was now just eyeing you curiously, with a small amused smirk playing on his plump pink lips.

You realized you were staring and quickly averted your gaze, your face heating up.

"Um yeah, 'm fine" You muttered sheepishly, still looking down.

"You sure??" The guy's tone was as amused as his smirk "'Cause this sure sounded rough."

"Oh did it??" You finally looked up, cheeks burning "Well you try driving at 10 fucking pm and then having your fucking car break in the middle of the damn desert and then trying to get your stupid boyfriend who's in a shitty motel 60 km away from you to come get you but instead he just tells you he doesn't want to be with you anymore and then shuts off his fucking phone."You spit out too fast, your throat uncomfortably tight, your eyes stinging, your breath coming out ragged in the night silence.

You realize how stupid you look. It wasn't even the fact that he broke up with you - you didn't love him either. But your car - your baby - breaking and you being basically trapped in the middle of Nevada... It was just all too much.

"Hey, hey, look at me" The guy, seemingly noticing your distress, spoke up with a gentle voice, his previous mocking tone now gone "It's okay. I know someone who can come and get your car and try to fix it. But you can't stay here. There's a motel nearby, I can drive you there - I'm headed that way anyway, so it's no big deal - and we can go and see what can be done about your car tomorrow. That's, if you don't mind, of course..." He blabbered, you noticing how fucking attractive this man was.

He was tall, all muscles and long limbs. His whole face was covered in freckles, his perfect cheekbones kissed by the sun. And his eyes, good God, his eyes. They were green and gentle, looking at you through blond lashes and making your knees weak.

Snapping out of your trance, you cough awkwardly "Um... yes, okay, if it's not any trouble..''

"God, I'm acting like a love-sick teenager, get a fucking grip (y/n)!!" You thought irritated and cursing the situation you were in.

You eyed stranger one more time. He didn't look suspicious and you obviously didn't have any other choice. I mean, what could you do?? Sit there the whole night and wait for someone to pass by and ask for help?? This guy was even offering to drive you to a motel. It'd be a missed chance if you refused his help.

You were a risk taker anyway.

You smiled.
"Fine, let's go, um..??"

"Dean. Dean Winchester." He smiled, his eyes sparkling. "And you are??"

"I'm (y/n). Nice to meet you."

"Right back at ya. Hop in" Dean said, getting in the car.

You chose the song - Kashmir by Led Zeppelin - and turned the volume up.

After almost 10 minutes of aggressive off-key singing, you were both laughing your asses off, cheeks flushed and looks lingering on each other.

"He was a jerk, by the way." Dean said after you had calmed down.

At your questioning look he just sighed "Your boyfriend. He was a total ass. I mean, he broke up with you - okay that's fine, relationships are hard, happens to the best of us - but to leave you hanging in the middle of nowhere?? Man, that's rough."

"Yeah."

You drove in comfortable silence after that, classic rock softly humming from the speaker.

"Yeah" You thought, staring out of the window to the deserted but beautiful night landscape. "Turns out even bad things can end well."
