Introduction

It began at a Convention.

I started look at the programming at our local convention and realized that most of the panels fit into one of two categories. Either you had the people who were making stories (actors, writers, FX artists) who answered questions about making stories, or you had fans talking about the stories they liked or hated.  But no one was actually making any stories, it was just celebrating stuff that existed, or condemning it.

But what if I could make something FOR the Con? Instead of analyzing something that exists, it would be a brand new thing made only for that room at that moment. But what to do? It's hard to sell original stories, and the idea of trying to lure people into a meeting room with something they'd never heard of seemed daunting. But what about a missing piece of a larger puzzle? A script reading of a lost episode for an existing show? The idea had merit but I wanted to go bigger.

What about something that never existed and never could?

That's when I discovered SuperWhoLock, the beautiful unholy alliance of Supernatural, Doctor Who and Sherlock. It was something that existed solely in the hearts and minds (and Tumblrs) of the fans. And it could never actually exist, too many lawyers, too much red tape, etc.

But in the world of Fan Fiction, and Conventions, why not?

I decided to approach it as a serious screenwriter. I wouldn't just do an hour of fan service, I imagined that I had been approached by the studio to do this for real. What limitations would they put on the project? Who would agree to appear? Where would it be shot? It seems silly, but it helped to focus the mind and not have the project get too far off the rails.

I gathered a group of my friends who had some performance experience, got permission from the Convention organizers, rehearsed and got up in front of a crowd and read it out.

(If you'd like to see how it went, you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFolX_5E-T4 )

I had several people come up afterwards and want to read the script, but it felt a bit strange to be handing them around. But then I discovered Wattpad, and here we are.

I had a lot of fun writing this, directing the actors and listening to the audience reactions. So much that we went back the next year and did two more SuperWhoLock stories along with some other new stuff. If people are interested, I'd be happy to post those here as well.

But before that, let's get this out of the way:

DISCLAIMER

The following is a work of fiction. The characters and situations described within are owned by their respective, kind hearted corporations. I do not claim ownership over any of them, you can even keep the original characters I added into the mix.

This was written for the pure joy of the process and to entertain a non-paying audience. I have attempted to treat all characters with the respect they deserve while still creating an exciting story. I hope you'll see this was a labor of love and not done for any financial profit.
