Chapter 1: Patterns on the Pane
I stood silently braiding my long, wispy, snow white blonde hair in my bedroom. I was too nervous to go beyond the closed wooden door. I didn't want to move. I didn't want to leave everything I had known for my whole life behind; I couldn't. Hillton Falls was my childhood; my life and my parents were taking me away from all of that.
My little sister Anna didn't really seem to have a problem with the idea of moving. She was always happy to have a new taste of scenery; but she wasn't born here like I was. It was on a skiing trip in the mountains of St. Fork in Michigan; but we were still living in Hillton Falls during that time.
"Elsa! Elsa!?" Anna shrieked outside of my door. I didn't feel like dealing with her excitement right now.
"Go away Anna" I groaned, begging for some peace in my mind.
"Okay...Bye..." She sighed as I heard her shoes click down the hall. I sighed a sigh of relief.
After finally completing my braid and draping it around my shoulders, I walked over to the box of my favourite things that I packed for the move. I had alot of pictures of my friends and different snow globes that I picked up from each city my family traveled to when we went on a road trip across America.
I missed those times; when I didn't care about my future problems; just there and now. But those feelings were long gone and I knew I wasn't going to be getting them back anytime soon.
A soft tapping on my door echoed through my room. "Elsa? Are you ready to leave yet?" I heard my mom call.
I sighed and closed back the flaps on the box and carefully lifted it up. "Yes," I finally replied solemnly.
She opened the door and gave me a soft smile trying to lighten the mood. "Are you still angry about the move?" She asked softly.
I closed my eyes and shook my head; I didn't want her worrying about me. "No, I-I'm fine"
"Good, this will actually be a happy trip" She smiled happily. I bit my lip trying not to protest and nodded in agreement.
"Anna come help your sisters with her boxes!" My mom yelled down the hall.
"No mom; I-I don't want Anna helping; she might break something" I said quickly. I would die if Anna broke any of my things; I needed all of my memories.
"Oh don't be silly Elsa; Anna's very careful, she won't break a thing" She said as Anna ran into the room excitedly.
She noticed the box I was struggling to hold and quickly came to take it.
"No Anna! I can carry this one" I exclaimed loudly.
"But I want to help!" Anna shouted.
"Carry another box!"
"No!" She said tugging at the box.
"Anna stop!" I shouted just as I accidentally lost grip of the box. It tumbled into Anna's arms but crashed to the ground when Anna realized it was too heavy for her to hold.
The sound of breaking glass and crumpling paper echoed through my body.
"Nooo!" I screamed angrily.
Anna looked down at the box with a surprised look plastered on her face. "O-Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry Elsa!" She yelled nervously.
"Anna, Elsa trusted you with her things!" My mom said sternly.
"I'm sorry," Anna cried, fresh tears falling down her cheeks.
"Just get out!" I screamed slumping down in front of the box that now contained broken treasures.
"Elsa don't speak to your sister that way!" My mom snapped.
My dad came running into my room, a worried look on his face. "What the heck is going on in here?" He asked.
"It's nothing," Said my mom as she picked up Anna.
"Nothing? Anna broke all of my favourite things!" I growled pointing towards the box.
My dad put his hands on his face and shook his head. "This move is already difficult as it is and you two just have to bring your bickering along with it?"
"It was Anna's fault!" I protested.
"Enough! Just clean up this mess and bring everything else you're bringing downstairs before the truck comes" My dad replied angrily storming out of the room.
"C'mon Anna" My mom huffed turning out of the room as well, Anna's sniffling echoing down the hall.
I groaned and kicked the box. How could they act so caring towards Anna and not care that the only things that would help me remember my happy existence in Hillton Falls were broken because of her?; it wasn't fair.
I got up from the floor and pressed my forehead against the cool pane of my window and closed my eyes. When I opened them, a mysterious pattern made of thin ice laced the window. Every detail was perfect and it almost seemed to tell a story as it trailed across the glass. Was someone trying to tell me something? I put my hand against the pattern and a light energy pulsed through my fingertips; immediately everything started to feel weirdly ok. Maybe moving to Arendelle wasn't going to be a bad thing after all; just maybe.
