"Yeah, I'm pretty sure."

"Can I ask you another question?" I asked.

Kelly's P.O.V.

Once those words left her lips, it felt as though all the air had been punched out of my lungs.

"Sure, go ahead."

"Okay," her voice had lowered. "Why are you here, like in this institute?"

My eyes had widened, I began to panic in my mind. Do I tell her about my depression and self harm? Do I not?

"Uh, I'm here for talking to 'people who aren't there' and insomnia," I gulped, hoping she didn't detect the half truth.

"Oh, okay."

I mentally sighed and smiled. I felt bad for lying, but she's my only real friend in here and I don't want to lose her, no now, not ever. She just shouldn't know yet. She couldn't know yet.

"I'm sorry that it was such a personal question, I was just curious," she looked down at her hands.

"It's fine, it wasn't like I'm the only one with these problem in here," I laughed off.

She laughed. We sat in awkward silence for a minute or two, which felt like an eternity. I looked around the room, it looked almost exactly like mine, but it seemed, off. I couldn't tell what it was.

"Why are you looking around?" she asked.

"It's just something that I do at random times, it's weird," I looked at the window.

"What's weird?"

"It just seems off  in here, call me crazy, but it just does," I responded.

"Well, you are in an asylum, so people can call you crazy," she laughed. "But, I don't know what you mean by 'off', but I bet it's just from new surroundings. Your room may be just a tad different than mine."

I nodded. Yeah, that may be true, but it still feels weird in here. I just can't put my finger on it.

"Hey," she snapped me out of my thoughts. "Why do you have such dark under eyes?"

She motioned to under my eyes. I looked at her with confusion, but finally knew what she was asking.

"Well it's from my insomnia. That's my inability to sleep for days at a time. So, these happen when I don't sleep," I informed her.

"Well, you do look a bit tired, you can sleep here, if you'd like?" she smiled.

Her face always scrunches up when she does that. Her cheeks would turn a pink color and her dimples were placed in the center of her cheeks. Her beautiful brown eyes would squint to where it looked as though they were closed.

"Uh, I don't kno-" I started.

"Please, it would make me feel a lot better if you did. Do you want me to feel bad?" she pulled her puppy dog eyes.

"Fine, but not now, I'll sleep later. I promise," I laughed and pushed her arm to get her to stop making the face.

Another moment of silence, but it was calming, not awkward. But that was soon broken by a knock at the door.

"Come in," Crystal stood up.

Mrs.Elaine cracked the door open and pushed it open. "You need to take your medicine Crystal. And Kelly, Burke is looking for you, you also need your medicine."

I nodded my head, the braids falling onto the front of my shoulders. I stood up and grabbed my book. I hugged Crystal, but not before whispering.

"I'll meet you later, in the library maybe?" I asked.

She nodded and bade my goodbye. I waved as I walked out the door and down the corridors, back to my room. I opened the door and Mr.Burke was there, holding my medicine.

"Here's your daily medicine," he handed them to me along with a cup.

I walked to the bathroom and filled it with water. I first took a blueish pill, then a white tablet and finished with another white pill. The last white pill has a bitter taste to it, my face scrunched up with disliking.

"I hate the last pill, it's too bitter, I hate it."

I poured the leftover water down the drain of the sink. I then turned to Mr.Burke and handed him the glass.

"Can I go to the library, I'm meeting Crystal there. I'm also apparently 'staying the night' in her room. She said that I looked tired and wanted me to sleep in her rooms with her," I rushed.

He thought about it for a second and finally he nodded his head yes.
