Warm Winter Dream

Your thumbs fleetingly roamed across the screen of the phone. Lying on your back, you hold the smartphone infront of your face. Smiling lightly seeming all amused while enjoying the warmth of the apartment despite the chilling weather outside. At some time, the phone almost slid away but you managed to catch it before it tumbled down onto your face. A relief sigh slipped away. 'That could've hurt', you thought to yourself while watching the screen.

Eyes widened with sparkling excitement when a new chatroom appeared, sitting up quickly on the bed. All of the attention centered towards the replies made your heart all fuzzy and warm. Feeling a bit flustered at that newly-profound emotion, your fingers continued texting the replies.

Those random wiki facts and cat pictures instigated more bubbles of laughter rising from inside. You tried to keep it at bay, concerned with who would be listening. Although it was already late into the night, you couldn't help but feeling wary. Small laughter managed to escaped though even when you find the effort to cover your lips. "So cute", your muffled voice filled the room.

You knew that it was already late but you felt the need to reply one more before bidding goodnight. Another random text. Next a meme. A sticker. Another unrelated text. The replies went on and on and it looked like there was no end to this. You felt at ease, happy and full of curiosity. 'Who is this person?', you pondered while gazing at the small profile picture next to the responds, never realising that a gentle smile etched on your face.

"You seemed to be having fun over there." You flinched and froze up from the patronising voice looming behind you. 'Well, you're doomed', was the thought flashing past you. When did she came back to check up on you? You didn't hear the security door asking questions-

"Are you checking on that girl again?", she huffed and started on her sermons about how the enraged higher-ups bestowing the ultimate sentence if you passed the dateline. Your sprightly voice chimed in attempting to refocus her attention by offering the Honey Buddha Chips. The brunette clicked her tongue and harked back about the dateline again before walking away.

"Vanderwood should calm down more", you sent her a voiceless suggestion before continuing to apologise to the girl in the chatroom for the abrupt leave. You observed her from the cctv monitor of her apartment, expression swirling from happiness to disappointment. A tinge of ache stabbed your chest for her, profusely apologising inside your mind. Regardless, she replied with a good heart and bade you to have a good night.

It was late into the night and you were awake; but you felt that you had a good warm dream chatting with her in this cold winter night.

Your expression fall when you realised that all of those was only just a faraway dream.
