I couldn't belive what I had just heard. This sounded like some lame plot from a terrible movie.
"You're joking, right?" I said and hoped to see them both burst into laugh and brag about how good they had managed to fool me. But no one laughed and no one was bragging. Instead they just looked at me and I could see the pain in their eyes. I felt tears bursting out of my eyes.
"This, this can't be happening! What about my mom? Where is she?" I cried out.
"Maria, calm down." John said and squeesed my hand gently. I felt a bit calmer.
"We don't really know where she is , but , we know that she is alive." John said and smiled lightly to me.
"What about your mother John?" I said gently. I really hoped that she was okay. John looked down and I could see his shoulders shaking.
Oh no... I'm so so sorry John. Oh my love, come here." I said and pulled him into my arms and hugged him tightly. Karl looked at us for a while. Then he stood up and said.
"I'll leave you two alone now, calm each other down." then he left the room.

Me and John just sat there for a while. I don't know how long but it only felt like ten minutes. Then a loud alarm sounded and a red light started blinking in the hallway.
"What's going on?!" I yelled , traying to be louder than the alarm. John looked terrified.
"We have to go!" He yelled. Then he grabbed my hand, took the needles out of my arm and pulled me up and on out on the floor. My knees felt weak but I managed to hold myself up. John then dragged me down and stared running down the hallway and I saw many other people running. I had no idea what was going on, but something told me that it was really bad, as in life threataning bad.

We ran out a big door and then we were in a big room which was full of chairs and tables. In front of us there was another door, even bigger than the other one we had just came through.
The big door was closing and John started to run even faster and pulled me with him.
We managed to reach the door before it closed but the people behind us didn't make it. They were crying and banging on the door.
"We have to help them!" I said and tried to stop and go back. But John pulled me even harder.
"There is no time for that, they are coming! We have to go!"
We ran outside of the building we were in, the sun was so bright she hurt my eyes.
"Were are we going?" I asked him.
"To a safe house." John said and kept running. I felt so tired and my feets were burning.

We finally reached the safe house, tho it wasn't really a house. It was a underground tunnel who had been turned into some kind of shelter. But it was warm and dry and that was very important.
When we arrived in a big room some people came to us with clothes for me and blankets.
"Thank you very much." I said and they smiled and nodded.
"Should we get something to eat?" John said and I felt how hungry I was.
"Yes please, I'm starving."
John took my hand and we walked in the big room together.
I knew that no matter what would happen I would always have John by my side to help me.
