"Beep! Beep! Beep! Bark!" That was the sound what Monika awoke to. Not that she was really asleep, she hurt too much to sleep at all last night. She looked over to her two dogs, a Golden Retriever, Aster, and a German Shepard, Blitz.
"Great, breakfast time, pups." She thought to herself before getting up and changing.
The house was awfully quiet, except the dogs, who were barking for food. Her best friend, who was staying for a bit, Sakura and, her older sister, Julchen were probably still asleep. Monika brushed her teeth and combed her hair. Soon walking downstairs in to her kitchen and strangely seeing Sakura and Julchen at the island drinking coffee.
"Good morning, Monika!" Sakura turned to her and exclaimed cheerfully.
"At least she tries to lift my broken spirit." Monika thought to herself with a small smile at how kind her friends were to her.
"I see that smile, schwester!" Julchen yelled while pointing at Monika's lips.
"Jul, not now please." Monika thought. Her smile faded and a sigh was all that was heard. Julchen crossed her arms.
"Why are you so upset, schwester? You have such a great house, great friends, and an awesome big sister to take care of you!" Julchen grinned at calling herself 'awesome,' which she always did.
"It's nothing. I'm fine." Monika told her older sister. Of course, the Prussian albino girl was obviously not going to believe it.
"Nothing my ass. What's wrong?" Julchen had a slight glare in her eyes as she spoke to her little sister.
"I don't think Monika wants to talk about it, Jul." Sakura spoke softly to the older sibling. Monika sighed again but nodded.
"Danke, Sakura. I really don't want to talk about it anyway." Monika said as she grabbed the dog food and poured the gross stuff into the two dog bowls. She set the bowls on the ground as Aster and Blitz trotted over and ate happily.
"Maybe I don't have to tell them yet. Maybe I don't have to tell them at all. Maybe I'll get over it soon, and they don't have to know. Well, the only other person who knows is Matthias. I doubt he will tell anyone, especially after my evil threat of no beer for..." Monika was snapped out of her thoughts by Julchen shouting.
"Oh Scheiße! I have to meet Francine and Carmen soon!" Julchen exclaimed.
"Oh. I didn't know you had to meet them today, schwester." Monika had a questioning tone in her voice.
"Ja, I do! I gotta go, Sakura watch her! Auf Wiedersehen!" Julchen shouted before running out the door. Monika took note that her older, more responsible sister was still dressed in pajamas. She chuckled softly.
"What's so funny, Monika?" Sakura asked, confused.
"She's still in pajamas. And they say she's more responsible." Monika chuckled again. Sakura laughed.
"Imagine Carmen and Francine's faces." Sakura giggled.
"Ja, that would be funny to watch." Monika sighed softly, hoping her friend wouldn't hear. But of course, she did.
"Monika, what's wrong?" Sakura rested a soft hand on her shoulder.
"Nichts. I'm fine, Sakura." Monika was glad she couldn't hear her screaming, tortured thoughts to stop.
"No, there is something wrong. You only use German when you're upset. What is wrong, Monika?" Sakura tightened her grip on Monika's shoulder just a bit. Monika sighed sadly. She knew she couldn't hide it anymore. Especially not from one of her best friends.
"I've been depressed lately... I didn't want to tell anyone. I can't really explain it much, except I can't stop thinking about the worst times I've had... I've been depressed for a long time now, I'm just really good at hiding it." Monika explained to Sakura. Sakura gasped.
"We have to tell Jul! She has to know!" Sakura said, full of worry.
"Nein! Mary does not need to know! It doesn't even matter." Monika mumbled the last part.
"It does matter! You're upset, your older sister has to know! I'm your friend, Monika, let me help at least." Sakura pleaded.
"Fine... Don't tell anyone else though. Or no Alice in Wonderland for a week."
"Deal!" Salura exclaimed with her fingers crossed behind her back. Sakura knew exactly who she was going to tell. She only hoped Monika didn't find out.
