That You All Have GunsAnd You Never Put The Safety On
MARIA WASN'T SURE WHAT TO DO, WHETHER TO STAY OR TO GO. She had been at The Hilltop for a few days. Paul hadn't done a supply run in those days, only because he wanted to watch her at all times. He was nervous that she would just leave the first chance she got left alone.
Maria woke up next to Paul, who she still didn't call Jesus. He thought it was weird, that usually people chose the name Jesus over Paul. He liked it though, it made her different compared to the others around him.
Maria stood up, walking over to the window that faced towards the front of The Hilltop. She had began doing this every day after her first time waking up here. Yet today, something was different. Someone was standing in front of the gate.
"Paul." Maria spoke, the steadiness of her voice showing strongly. Paul turned over in the bed, looking at where she stood at the window,
"Yea?" He asked, his eyes narrowed at her. She hadn't turned to look at him, just staring out at the window. She didn't answer for a moment, just leaned closer to the mirror. Furrowing his eyebrows out of confusion, he sat up.
"Maria?" He asked, she let out a breath of air, turning her head to look at him. Her eyes were filled with confusion, not sure what to say. Maria's mouth opened slightly but shut when she heard the front gate open.
"Paul, I thought there was just one, but there are tons. There are tons of people outside the gates." She tells him, he quickly sits up. Not sure what to say, or to believe her, he walked towards the window. As he walked up, he immediately saw what Maria was talking about.
Trucks, along with people around them began coming inside. Paul's heart raced, he had forgotten to tell Maria about the saviors. He sighed deeply, looking at the girl in front of him who seemed barely feared.
"I'll explain later, stay here." He tells her, and quickly heads to the door. He knew that Maria wasn't going to listen, he had learned that from her in the very few days she stayed here. Somehow he had actually convinced her to stay for a few days, but every morning he feared it was going to be the last.
He heard her feet following behind him down the staircase. He didn't even bothering to turn around, knowing that he had to go meet the saviours quickly. As he walked out of the building, Simon and his pick up crew had turned to the doors where Paul had came from.
"Ah! Jesus! We're here to grab our shit. Hope you got good stuff this week or else." Simon said to Paul, pulling out a knife and moving it around slightly in his hand. "Or, remember what happens when Negan finds out about a light drop." He snickered, causing Paul to cringe slightly.
"Yes, we all remember Simon. We don't have a light drop this week though." Paul reassures him, feeling Maria's presence make her way next to him.
"Whats going on?" She questions, looking at Paul, then the people who walked around, grabbing anything they wanted. Paul went to talk, but saw Simon put his hand up. Paul's heart dropped slightly, as he saw Maria turn to the guy, giving him a dirty look.
"Whats with the rude face sweetheart?" A tall man questions, walking over to Maria. "I'm Simon." He adds, glancing around at the Hilltop. She looked at him up and down, now realizing they weren't here for a place to stay. His clothes were clean, no dirt or blood on them. She stayed silent, biting the inside of her cheek to stop herself from talking.
"Who are you?" She questions, looking the man up and down one last time. He was tall, with a very noticeable receding hairline. The man towered over her, having to be at least 6'4. Looking up at him, she purses her lips, waiting for an answer.
"You know, I don't like people who ask a lot of questions." He says to her, looking down at her. A smirk made his way across his lips as he noticed how unsettled Paul was. He was standing off to the side of Maria, his eyes darting between Simon and herself.
"I don't like people who don't answer questions." Maria shot back, shifting her foot. The mans eyebrows rose at her comeback. No one dared to talk back to the saviors, he didn't like it.
"How about we show her a little lesson here." Simon says, putting a hand up and directing someone to walk over. "Or we could show one to Jesus over here, since you guys seem to be close." Simon questions, a small smirk once again coming to his lips.
Maria's heart raced, she didn't mean for this to happen. She just wanted to know who they were. She wanted to know what was going on. What was the problem with asking a simple question?
"You don't have to bring him into this, he has nothing to do with it." She says to Simon, the worry coming through her voice. Simon liked watching the girl suddenly loose her defense. He liked to see how he can make someone worry under just a few words.
"How about this, since you don't know what's going on, i'll let it pass." Simon says, Maria looses her nervousness, thankfulness taking its place. "Jesus, if this shit happens again..." Simon tells Paul, turning to him. Simon made a clicking sound with his tongue, then moved his wrist slightly.
Maria was dumbfounded still. She wasn't sure what any of what they were talking about meant. Yet, she was thankful she didn't have to find out the hard way. She didn't want someone she just met getting hurt for her.
Paul thanked Simon, then gave Maria a death glance. She wasn't sure why, maybe it was because she decided to protect him instead of herself. Yet, it also could have been because she was provoking the saviors.
"Load up the shit boys!" Simon says, a hand motion making its way into the air. Dozens of people began to walk around, grabbing stuff they found. Maria was horrified, was this what Paul meant when he said they needed help?
Paul was watching Maria, his heart racing. He had never thought someone would stand up against the saviors. He wasn't sure what to think of it. Paul knew that she wasn't like normal girls, especially now.
Maria had been through enough to kill a single man himself. She wasn't strong though, she just handled things nicely. Paul had to say, he couldn't see her before hand being one of those girls that only cared about themselves. Cared about getting their nails domes and having the perfect skin and such. He was glad that it made its way into this new world.
