Chapter 1 - What is Love?

It's not often that something exciting happens in my life. The world around me keeps spinning like a tornado through the air, and the small part of it I live in stands perfectly still.

I almost thought life would never change. My job as a photographers assistant would continue until I grow too old to lift a finger, my interest in the arts would continue as no more, and my days as a single, lifeless girl would go on forever.

See, everyone assumes that those who are in relationships are the lucky ones, but that's not always the way. Sometimes it's those who have not found love that are most fortunate, as there is an even greater love to be found for them.

The way my journey had been going, I never imagined any great changes to occur, I always accepted that things would never change, I would never grow, and life would never excel. Of course, these things change when you least expect them to. Without the realisation, someone steps into my life and shows me how to fulfill it, and they teach me how to follow my dreams.

This person is of course no ordinary person, and is someone who was not immediately noticeable as the one I would love and learn from.

It all started one day when I decided to make a change to my miserable life. I chose to leave my tight knit friends, and find some new ones who would care for me as I did for them. And on that journey, is where I met him.

We all decided to go swimming one afternoon, when the sun was setting and the birds were sleeping. Upon arriving to the pool, I met some new friends, ones I would never have expected to become friends with.

But from the two boys I met that day, one stood out. His neatly styled, brown hair and big eyes gave a welcome I had never received. His words interested me, enticed me, and comforted me.

It is not often that someone could talk to me so easily, particularly any guys. But the way our conversations flowed was something of a fairy tale, like a gentle stream of water to the sea.

As time went on from that day, the conversations became more exciting, and our understanding of each other's sarcasm grew. I then began to realise that this friend of mine was one to hold onto.

After a short amount of time, exchanging a simple look would speak a thousand words, and things needn't be said to be understood. At first I appreciated this good friend of mine, as no more than just a friend. Nobody else saw it that way but us.

They all said it. Every person who saw us would say that we must be more than friends, that we had more than a simple friendship. And the only people who were disbelieving of this was him, and I.

We would fight against what others said, promising we would remain friends. We would talk to each other about it, how frustrating it became, but what neither of us would admit was that they were right.

Life's journey continued with one outstanding secret kept from each of us. Although we both agreed to be friends, neither of us really wanted things to stay this way. The closer we became, from acquaintances to friends, and from friends to best friends, the tighter our bond was, and I saw more in him than I had ever seen in anyone else.

And at this realisation, a light bulb flickered in my brain, that changed my life forever. Coming to a realisation that the journey must continue, things must change and love must grow, was one of the most life changing moments of everything I've experienced.

And a strength grew within me that encouraged me to change things, and reveal the truth.

The strong, sharp, and progressively taller boy allowed me to approach him with an intense nervousness running through my system. Of course with me revealing things face to face was completely impossible, so the act of messaging in metaphors over social media became a much needed skill.
