My dad wanted me to look presentable, so I wore the least Barbie esc thing in my closet. But luckily this was the only skirt I packed, I'm only going to wear jeans from now on.
I'm just waiting for my dad to finish packing, then we will be taken to Maryland for the mission. "I'm ready Sam, lets go" my father told me, walking outside to the cab.
We put our bags in next to us and sat down, I was waiting and I started to wonder. I wondered how old these kids would be. Would they be fun loving toddlers, or spoiled teenagers that were older than me. Maybe there would be a kid my age, maybe me and these kids could become my friends like Bailey is.
No, I need to stop thinking like that, this is strictly business. I'm here to keep them safe because they can't protect themselves, they don't even know why we're coming. Apparently to them we're just their babysitters, but hopefully they wouldn't have to know the truth about why we're here.
During my thoughts I didn't notice that the car had pulled up to a house that would look nice if it didn't have kids toys all over the yard.
My father stepped out of the car and I followed behind shortly. He walked on the walkway to the house and soon stepped on a tiny troll doll, that squeaked as it came in contact with his foot.
I tried to quiet my giggles to a minimum when he walked through the walkway and the sprinklers decided to turn on. It had been so funny to see his face, when I waited a few seconds and walked up to the porch next to him, not even a drop had fallen on me.
Dad rang the doorbell quickly and I looked down to see a ten year old open the door, she smiled at me but then looked over to my dad, screamed and slammed the door in our faces.
Someone else opened the door this time, it had to have been Julie Plummer, she had a toddler on her hip. She looked at us confused for a moment, but then remembered that we were here to 'babysit'.
"You must be lieutenant Wolfe, and you have to be his daughter in training Samantha Wolfe. Admiral Blair said you'd be coming" she said, pulling my father and I into a hug before I spoke. "I don't want to sound rude, but Ms. Plummer this is my first field mission, and unless I fail I'll be a marine just like my dad" I told her. "Well my bad, I'm sorry. Come on in, meet the rest of the gang" she told us, opening the door for us. I sat my duffle bag on the floor and waited to be recognized with my arms behind my back, waiting for command like a good soldier.
"Kids, get your butts down here and say hello" Ms. Plummer said, more like yelled up the stairs for her kids. I made my face look as close to my fathers as I could, I wanted to look like I was a soldier considering I was in a skirt. I made my face look blank as I waited for the children to come down the stairs.
"Ok, you've already met Lulu, this is Zoe, Seth, and Peter" Ms. Plummer said, pointing to each of her children.
Zoe looked older than me, but still seemed like a handful. Lulu looked like a kid I could get along with, she seemed like a sweet kid. Peter looked like an adorable little panda bear, it might just be because I love babies, and toddlers. Seth, well he looked my age and I guess he was a normal kid my age, but I didn't really know because I wasn't a normal kid my age. But he was a little cute, wait no what am I thinking, I'm a soldier nothing more nothing less. I'm here to protect and serve and that's all.
"Kids this is lieutenant Wolfe and his daughter, soldier Samantha Wolfe. They're the ones that are going to be staying with you while I'm away" Ms. Plummer introduced us. I briefly nodded my head as I heard only Zoe and Lulu greet us with a small 'hi'. "Hi" my dad and I responded. "Oh, this is Helga and Tyler" she said, looking towards her youngest and the nanny.
"Ma'am, baby" I heard my dad say as I kept my eyes straight. I had to keep my breathing in control or else I would have busted out laughing at my fathers' dumb thinking.
I could feel someone staring at me from the stairs, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't Peter. But I had to keep thinking of being a soldier, and if I did good on this mission I would become second lieutenant, standing next to my father in great glory. I just had to keep my mind off of foolish child crushes and keep it on my promotion. Did I say crush, I meant my childishness, that's what I meant.
