I took two delicate bites of my toast, and searched the wardrobe to my left for clothes. A red and blue checked knee length dress, white socks and black shoes had been laid out for me in the top drawer. I pulled it on, and checked how I looked in the mirror in front of me. My blonde hair was messy around my pale face and my blue eyes had dark circles underneath them, expressing my exhaustion. The clothes fit me like a glove, and showed off my young curves. I ran my fingers through my hair, smoothing it out and tied it in a high ponytail with the hair tie on my wrist.
Dylan tapped quietly on the door, and it brought back memories from the first time I opened the door to him. I sat down on the bed, too shook to open the bedroom door. I wrapped my arms around my legs and held myself close. I thought about where I would be right now if I had never answered the door. I thought about my parents at home who would be worrying about me. The people at their party that I never got to meet. The books that would have been gifted to my parents and handed to me that I never got to read.
The door creaked open and he peered in. I stood up, frightened.
"Luna? Are you okay?" He frowned.
I nervously smiled at him.
"Yeah, fine."
I followed him down the hallway, into a small kitchen. There were wooden tea stained counters, a grease splattered back splash and shabby walls peeling with dark orange paint. An old calendar was askew on a wobbly three legged table across the room. I wondered over and read through it.
"2003" the cover read in large black letters. As I turned the pages there were pictures of what I assumed to be animals- pink and white pale creatures with black eyes and white pupils. They looked like inside out versions of lions and tigers. This world was so weird. There were so many questions I wanted to ask Dylan but I kept quiet because he looked really uneasy today. I sat down on a mouldy wooden stool at the front of the bench and watched Dylan rush around his kitchen trying to clean everything up.
"I'm taking you to school today." Dylan says gathering his papers together and making his way down another corridor headed towards the front door.
"Oh okay, I've never been to school before." I said following him down the hallway, which were peeling orange paint also.
"Mint." He turned around and smiled at me.
