After a restless sleep of nightmares, Alex picked me up for school. We went to Magna Carta High School. We were both 16, but he preferred to drive more than me. On the way the school we were both deathly quiet. Once we got there, he broke the silence.

"I'm sorry about last night," he stuttered, looking down.

"Are you going to tell me what that was all about?" I asked. I had been thinking over the night and the most reasonable answer I had come up with was that he was cheating on me. I didn't want to believe that, but it was the only thing that made sense. I waited for his answer.

"No," he replied and started walking away. Another point for the cheating team. I decided my plan: follow him and find out if he was cheating. I know that sound stalkerish, but I had to do it. Most of the day he stayed inside his house. I stopped watching him right after 11, because that had been the time he had left me on my porch. If he was dating another girl, he was very good at concealing it.

For the next couple of weeks, Alex was his normal self. There were no traces of the mysterious, winter-dance-night-Alex. We were together almost all of the time, so I didn't really have to watch him.

Around the same time of the dance next month, though, he started acting weird again. Stuff like looking over his back and muttering words to himself. It was very annoying when he wouldn't listen to me, and instead of having dates on Saturdays, he stayed confined in his room.

It was bitter sweet. Alex was definitely not cheating on me, which was good, but I still didn't know what was wrong with him, which was bad. My curious personality lead me to calling him in the middle of the night to see what he was up to. I was turning into a static-cling girlfriend. The last thing I wanted was for Alex to break up with me.
