The Infirmary

I woke up gasping, the pain in my chest was still there. Disorientated, I looked around. I was in the infirmary, lying in a bed. Catarina sat on the one next to mine. It took me a moment to regain my memories. About why I might be here and about the fight. I spun around, looking for Andrew. He laid in the bed on my other side. He didn't wear a shirt, instead his chest was heavily bandaged. He was still dirty from the fight and his hair stuck to his head, drenched in sweat. I tried to get up and to him, but Catarina held me back.

"You need rest, don't be silly." She said. I didn't listen. "Victoria. He will be fine, I promise you." That made me listen and I stopped struggling against her, lying back in my bed. "What happened to him? I mean, what does he have? I just remember that he was bitten." I said, even speaking being very hard for me. "He's got a few broken ribs that are still healing, the Iratzes they put on him are still working and trying to patch him up. The silent brothers said that he should still be unconscious for a couple of hours and then he should wake back up. The poison is out of his body, but they said he might be a bit weak for the next couple of days." She explained. "He'll be fine." She insured me again, looking at me softly.

I took a few breaths. "Christopher told me what happened but I want to hear it from you again." Catarina told me. I took another deep breath and then I told her exactly what happened. "I dunno, they were kind of...stronger than usual." I said about the demons. I went on recounting what happened. "Yeah, and then I blacked out." I ended my story. Catarina nodded. "Ok and how are you feeling now?" Catarina asked me. "My chest is still in pain and my Parabatai rune still hurts...but other than that I'm fine." I said. "But I don't matter, it's Andrew who has been injured, not me." I added, trying, once again, to get up. Catarina held me back again and I couldn't really do much, I was still quite weak.

"Victoria, stop it." She said. I leaned back again. "Oh Victoria, all you ever care about is your brother." She sighed. "You told me that once before, remember?" I asked. She nodded. "And do you remember what my answer was?" Catarina nodded again. "'Because nobody else ever does. Nobody cares about him, so it's my job to do so. It's my job to look out for him.'" Catarina recited. Now I was the one nodding. "And I still stand by that." Catarina gave me a sad look. "You two...That's a chapter for itself." She said, shaking her head.

"Ok, I'll leave you guys alone now. Rest a bit, you need it." She said, though it sounded more like an order. She left and I sat on my bed for a bit, gathering my strength. Then I got up. It took a lot out of me but I went over to Andrews bed and laid beside him, careful not to hurt him. I curled up next to him and then I fell asleep.
