When we arrive at Joey's house, I slowly make my way to Pencil Case City with my head down and my eyes full of tape-tears. Mrs. Flashlight comforts me and carries me back into Pencil Case City, where Dr. Clip examines me and shakes his head: I only have ten more minutes to live. I try to calm down, but I can not. Everyone is making me eraser flowers as Mr. Ball Point goes to make funeral arrangements with Mr. Trash. No one really gives me any word of comfort, but instead, everyone is intently working on making the best-looking eraser bouquet.

As I am about to lose all hopes, the zipper is jolted open. I know it is most probably Mr. Ball Point coming back from his funeral meeting; but instead, it is Joey! I look up with trembling lips and tapery-eyes. I try to control my emotions, but nothing seems to help stop the fountain of tears. Valiant, yet gentle Joey pulls me out of Pencil Case City and places me onto his gnarled, wooden desk. Although I think he may throw me in the trashcan, he instead reaches out and pulls out a roll of white-out tape from his pocket. He carefully opens up my frame, unwinds the old tape, and replaces it with the new. I look up at Joey as he looks down at me. Maybe Joey is a changed kid! I suddenly feel young again when he puts my plastic cover back on. He cautiously places me back into Pencil Case City and drops a sticky note inside.

The note reads:

Mr. W.O.:

I am sorry to have waited so long to refill your tape. I just remembered this morning and ran to Staples immediately. Since I did a favor for you, I'll need a big favor from you too. I am heading down to the football game.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to accompany Agent Ball Point in his task to write my essay that is due tomorrow. I have placed a recording of my professor's lecture on the table. Good Luck.

I look at Mr. Ball Point and we both willingly accept the mission, but we both know that Joey is not "a changed kid". Moreover, by the time we're done with this mission, we will both need our refills.
